So I went out and bought myself a 1989 240sx coupe. There's a rust spot the size of a quarter and that's all. It's a little bit beat up, but over all in good condition for a 20 year old car. It has a KA in it right now but it overheats almost immediately. I need to trouble shoot that, since I would like to enjoy driving it with a KA before I swap. I have my heart set on an sr20det, tein flex coilovers, and te37 wheels. I'm not completely set on anything else. I'm looking to build a car that can be a street car but can also drift on the weekends. This is my first nissan. I have three toyota mr2s and I'm excited to learn a new car. I did have some questions for you guys. Here are a few pictures.

On to the questions...

I really want to do a front end conversion, but I'm not a huge fan of the s13 silvia conversion. I've gotten almost nothing but negative feedback about putting an s15 front end on. I'd like to do a kouki front end or the s13.4b. My question is, how difficult is it to do one of those conversions and what parts would be needed? It can't be that easy to do, and I'd like to know what I'm getting myself into.

What are your feelings on a welded diff vs. a two way? Remember, this is for a street AND drift car.

What are some more popular turbo and intercooler setups? I'm not looking to throw a huge turbo on it, but I would like to upgrade.

What would you suggest for an exhaust and clutch?

Suggestions would be greatly appreciated, since I'm sure you guys have far more experience with these cars than I do.

The s13 silvia conversion will be the easiest by far because it was obviously designed for that chassis. The s14/s15 will be more difficult because they are MUCH wider. If you pick the wrong fender and/or wheel option, it can look really awkward. But as you've seen before the Kouki front can look decent. I'm VERY against the s15 front, but to each their own right? It's your car, not mine.

About the differential, here's a thread on that topic:

HERE's a much better thread for info imo.

And my thread just for fun

A popular turbo for an SR is something around a t3/t4 in size. The KA-T guys like this turbo too. Or for fast spool, alot use the GT28RS (disco potato). But there's MANY other options.

Exhaust - Depends on your taste. Loud? Quiet? Can? Dual tips?

BRM is a NICO brand and Greg (AZHitman) runs it. They specialize in low-key and clean exhausts.

And then there's always the HKS, Apex, Blitz, etc....

Clutch - Usually depends on how much power you're making.

s14 or s15 conversions you can get away with looking pretty nice IF you use conversion fenders. Look up OUttowinpahc and get in touch, he's local to you too .I've never done a conversion, but as long as you take your time with hard things like that, anything can be done and look nice.

Nice start. If you ever decide to get rid of those seats I want to be first in line! The lancaster guys have a desire for that pignose seat material. Maybe you know why...

For the diff, two ways can be streeted, but you'll deal with some ballin' noise when turning. People will think your car is breaking and from what I hear it's great haha!Might want to look into the s15 differential. I'm biased because I have and love mine, but it offers the best of both worlds for daily and then track use. Especially autox.

For the turbo setups, I'm happy with the stock turbo I have. When it wears down if it ever will I'll want something a bit larger with ball bearings. Namely the Garette gt2871R. It's popular, will shoot you around 400hp.

Honestly check out SPLparts or poweredbymax dot net for some fun robust parts. I run a cxracing intercooler pipe set which unbelievably comes complete for $85 to your door with couplers T bolt clamps etc without the IC. I sourced a smaller IC because I don't want boost lag.

I'd like to see your MR2's! I heart 2nd gens.Walcome.
