My 10 year discovered cars a year or so ago. And the big question became "Dad, what kind of car will I get when I'm 16?" And so he's on the internet looking at all manner of exotic sports cars and having a really hard time choosing between a Corvette, one of several Ferraris, Porshe turbos, etc.

So after asking me a million times on model after model, and me saying "No," and explaining the cost of these cars, and how I can't even afford one for myself, much less him, he's finally getting the picture. So now he's switched tactics to "Which Q45 will I get when I'm 16? The black one? The red one? The white one?" (120K, 115K and a Q45a with 70K). And given our situation with 4 kids, and my stock market losses, this question is getting more realistic all the time.

So now I find myself contemplating his very question, and wondering if my 3 Q45's will still be alive and well 6 years from now? Or if I should start looking for a Q worth saving and put it in (active) storage for him? And then the worries - will all you gurus still be on-line? Will Byron at T3 retire? Will gas go to 50% ethanol? Will Nissan come out with a Ethanol-proof injector for the Q? Will the stock market rebound with a vegence?

Life can be so complicated, with no end in sight.

Drive and maintain is the best strategy, besides garaging when not in use.

i have a bmw w/c was 13 years old when i bought it...it still drives the same as when i bought it at 122k...considering it was 4 years ago and 60k plus miles later, your son's 6 year wait isn't that far fetch.

Gas will be $6.00 per gallon, and he wont want to spend his allowance on a car that gets 15mpg.

Even if he still likes the Q by then, most of his similar age friends will rag on him for driving a old grampas car until peer pressure causes him to lose interest in it, pining for the latest flashy looking hybrid sportscoupe that gets 60mpg.

Do as I have done buy wrecks disassemble them and store the parts. I have 3 2door 8' cabinets full along with 2 - 6'x3'x 4 levels high open storage. After 20 years [2014] it may be impossible to buy new parts for 94-96. Just as many 90-93 parts are not available NOW. Obviouslyly Nissan wants to sell all inventory but it is doubtful they will order more parts except the very common ones: brake pads, belts, alternators.

No I won't sell any parts from my stash. They will however be available upon my natural death say in 20-25 years.
