I opened the hood of my 07'max today for the first time since I bought it in August. I believe no one has ever opened its hood before unless they do some kind of inspection at the dealership before selling it. The car never went for an oil change or any other service.

The hood opened as expected. Pulling the hood lock release handle on the driver's side loosened the hood. Moving the lever at the front of the hood to the left then released the hood completely. Pushed the hood a little upwards and it went up the rest by itself. To my surprise, the hood is extremely light compared to my 97'Altima's.

When I tried to close it by pulling it downwards, it came down and at some point tried to pull down itself. I left it at that point. The lever at the front locked the hood as it should. However, the hood remained in that locked position and did not close completely. That is, there is a gap between the hood and rest of the body which wasn't there before. It seems due to some reason the hood lock, which is released by pulling the hood lock release handle on the driver's side, is not locking the hood.

I checked and there was nothing creating an obstacle for the hood to close completely. I could not find any other reason why the hood shouldn't close completely. Did any of you guys have this problem?

If you close it and let it close gently it will lock. Then you need to press down on it firmly to fully engage the hood latch. It's so that it doesn't come slamming down on anything.

Otherwise you can just let it drop from about 12" with a little bit of pulling down motion and it will close on its own. I don't recommend that though I like to close the hood gently lol.

Yes, what JessAlba452 said. And it's nice and light because it's aluminimum (along with the trunk...)
