So here's the story. About a month ago I went to Florida on vacation. About a 900 mile trip for me. When I got to Miami, I noticed my navigation was off by 2-3 streets in the downtown area. Didn't think much of it at that point. The next day when I started the car, the system hung at the INFINITI Screen for longer then usual and when it came on, It was showing California. So I figure something has gone bust and I'll have to get it fixed when I get back.

While I was driving back from Florida, 1/2 way through the Trip, It popped up all of a sudden and I was right where I needed to be. but then It started getting slower and getting behind the exits. When I exitted off the hwy to fill up Gas, I shut the car of. When I started, The thing was in california again.

2 Weeks ago, I dropped the car off at the dealer. They have changed the diskThe control Unit Twicethe Antenna Twice

Still nothing. They are on the Techline Everyday trying to figure this out.

Anyone Out there seen this problem before? The dealer says they have never seen this issue.

So after 4 Control units and 3 antennas later, The dealer concludes the problem is with my window tints.

I still have to confirm this by pulling the tint out but I think he maybe correct.

I've been thinking about the options I have.

A:- Buy an aftermarket antenna Like Pioneer's Navigation. Extend the wires from the Factory antenna all the way to the Front dash and mount it up front some where so it can see out of the windshield..

B:- Remove all tint and go No tint

C:- Remove all tint, Go with Ceramic Tint

D:- Drill a hole on the Trunklid and put an aftermarket antenna there.

I would add though, The M has the Same 35% in the front 2 windows and 20% in the back and rear windows and has no problems with navigation.

You'd think this would be a more common problem with the popularity of window tinting?

Removing the tint sems like the simplest way to diagnose. Once proved to be at fault, couldn't you tint "around the antenna"? I guess I'd need to see a pic to know for sure.

The stock antenna is mounted under the decklid next to the navigation unit the dealer says.

Further searching shows ceramic tint works with the GPS, but the (standard) tint has "some" metal flake in it and that casues trouble for the GPS.

Find the best/highest quality tint shop in your area and ask them.

called a few shops around. I have madico tint which is one of the better options out there. They said the tint has a metal film which gives it the reflection and sun bock, but while it does this, it also blocks the radio waves from getting in Thus the navigation not getting a signal from the Sats.

When I go into the Navigation menu and try to choose a Sat, the system says I'm out of Range

You'd almost think a good quality tint shop would ask/make you aware prior to installation. Maybe they'll eat/split the labor on ceramic or do something???

Ali - DEMAND they do your car with Huper Optik.

Best tint on the market, bar none, and doesn't affect your Nav or Sat (I have both)....

Hope all is well. Welcome back!

This should be a sticky?I had read the past posts on tint and it's a big deal.

as a side note, I love how it defaulted to California just before it crashed.....
