ok i'm sure this has been asked but 03 350z vs 04 mustang gt. I know the specs say the 350z but has anyone had first hand. i tried to race a gt today but just learning how to use the 6 speed in a race and didn't work out for me. any input is awesome.

oh and i was very embarrassed to be beaten by a mustang

The only real world experience I have had is driving them both. I haven't raced them yet. And I have to say that the Mustang GT just feels sluggish compared to the 350z.

oh and i think its funny i seen a mustang gt vs 350 on youtube and the guy was bragging about a modded gt beating a stock 350 how sad is that. i mean you have a modded v8 and your racing a stock v6

I have a 99' Mustang GT and an 04' 350zThe only thing is, the mustang is auto, and the Z has over 300hp now (no dyno, guess 315-330hp about 270 wheel).I ran a WS6 the other day and pulled good on him the first run from a first gear slow roll, then went from 50 him in 2nd me in 3rd and he only pulled 1.5 cars then i closed it to half a car by 80 then we let off. Haven't raced me Stang yet but its not nearly as fast and its Automatic Transmission.

Here's a good one, my buddy's little brother has a 98 civic DX with a JDM H22A swap, header, test pipe, exhaust, intake, short throw. Raced a new mustang GT (300hp) from an 80mph roll, the mustang pulled a half right away but never pulled anymore up to 140. Pretty bad for the stang. You should beat the mustang. Also right after i got my car (had only pop-charger and cat back) a nasty GT (same body as mine) with ehaust, headers, full intake and intake manifold, wanted to run from one exit to the next on the freeway, i lead the way to the freeway, then downed into 2nd at about 45mph and you know to wait for him to line up and he blew by me, but the funny thing was, i was catching him. when he started into heavy traffic weaving in and out i let off (my girlfriend was in w/ me, i'm not risking her for a FORD race). But anyway, i've always heard mustangs are a bunch of noise, and i believe its true, especially after owning one!

Ive driven both an 04 Z and an 06 GT.The GT feels soooo sloppy and doesnt pull like ud imagine it should. The Z felt good for being stock suspension, fairly tight. Getting on it was good too. Pulled pretty nice.

Ive raced a Z from a dig and roll. I beat him both times. He was in an 06 Track.

Havnt had a chance to race a stock GT but Ive raced a heavily modded one and he only pulled on me alittle.

Im just guessing but I think a Z could easily beat an 04-present GT.

I had a little fun with a mustang gt a couple of days ago. this guy was racing a toyota corolla.... pulling ahead of the other car and flashing the hazard lights... i went to pull up next to the gt, guess he saw me coming because he floored it before we were lined up. i was at about 4 grand in 5th so i just kept going, hopped into 6th and started passing at about 120. traffic however showed up and we let off... ive always liked the 5.0 gts but this newer model was a disapointment.

I don't think the über tall gearing (2.89, 3.23, 3.53 or somewhere thereabouts) on the Mustangs help matters any. If they went 4.x or shorter, it would be a little more interesting.

Good thread. But even if the Mustang had 400 HP and was $1000 Less then the 350Z, I would still get a Z. It will last me longer

Is it just me or does it seem like most Mustang drivers are females who can't drive? lol What do you guys think about the new body style GTs?

I agree with you on this. Chicks push Stangs to try and get men. Thats why you see our 24 year old women with 45 year old guys! Im not a fan of Mustangs in all honesty. Never was. I used to work for Cervinis Auto Designs which is a HUGE company for aftermarket Mustang Parts. I used to love going to work telling Mr. Cervini and his Nephew how much Nissans are more realible then Fords haha. Fun times man

The New Bodystyle is horrible IMO.

See I actually really liked the new body style when they came out. But then within a week I saw about 400 of them on the road and lost interest lol. I also really like the new challenger and the camaro concept.

But I have to agree the Z will outlast them all. And I actually like the Z a lot more because you really don't see that many of them around here.

04 gt has 260hp, should be pretty even race I would think. Mod for mod a V8 should see better gains too. He might have had an intake or something you couldn't hear.

Ok i still like the Camaro, not so much a fan of the vette (they could do waayyy more with that car and they don't, and they are everywhere!). but i never really liked mustangs... which sux that i have one (just to sell though) but i drive it as my beater, and even then i don't like it. Now the new mustangs, are still slow, the concept camaro is ugly, and i don't like mopar mostly because of the neon (WTF) and the charger looks like the 300-C which you can get the same motor but more luxury options in the 300... the challenger concept is ugly too..... Oh and the new mustang has a huge body but it looks pretty good especially compared to the others.... But of coarse being a Ford will be out performed all around by the Chevy, and smoked in the drag by the Mopar..... And for a lot less money you could by a used Z, spend less then 10,000 on it making it equal in value to a Cobra SVT, or Vette Z06, but have a way faster, more reliable car, and better performance car..... for 10G's you could have turbo, and suspension at least....

Don't get me wrong I love the 350z, but if you are looking for straight line performance this doesn't seem like the best platform. I am looking at getting one and the after market options are pretty expensive and limited compared to a Mustang or Camaro. If you spend 10 grand on the Z I think you would still be beat by a mildly modded Cobra.

I'm a newer Z owner. Last year on the return trip to Ohio from Carlisle, I got into a spirited run going up a twisty up hill climb to the last tunnel on the Pa Turnpike. 55mph posted. I was driving a 93 teg with turbo. Started up the mountain around 75 and passed a new Mustang GT. He decided to run with me. The second turn in I was running around 95 to 100 and the GT started to get loose. I kept going and the GT dropped back. I know the Z does much better in the turns than the Teg did.

plenum, throttle body spacer, CAI, catback.... lighter wheels, short shifter....

oh believe me i was surprised at how close it was, but it could've been the driver. My girlfriend was with me and she was surprised too. I plan to build the heads on the Z this year and hopefully turbo next year (or sooner). Sometime before i turbo it i will put the Kinetix SSV intake manifold on it.

I think if i would have been in 2nd against the WS6 i could have got him, but i was surprised. I don't know what power i'm making at the wheels but when i find out i will post it. Plan to dyno at the next local dyno night (cheap pulls on the dyno, promo night for one of the local shops)....

My friend has an 04 Z with a Turbonetics single system. He ran up against a W6, ran a light to light, 1st and 2nd, even, the Z was spinning tires, hit third, got traction and pulled away big time.

I do agree with that, i was saying with the money you spend on an SVT or a Z06 you could have a faster car for the same amount of money you would spend on a NEW one of those.... My cousin had an SVT that was far from stock, pumped up the SC, full suspension, some motor work, sprayed. Had like 640 wheel sprayed. Thats about 10G's in that and was nasty, now he has a Z06 N/A completely built, stroked, 680 wheels N/A.... nitrous setup would put him about 850-900 wheel. Its setup for nitrous but never been tuned on it or even sprayed. He's trying to sell the car now.

I do know with tuning those cars you get more power because of a better platform..... But all i meant was for the money you would spend on a SVT or Z06 you could put the same amount into a Z and have a faster car(purchase price, mods = SVT purchase price for example)...... Didn't mean to stir things up in this thread....
