Music Box - Use of CDRWs and Recognizing Album/Track Titles

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

While reading the manual, I stumbled across this Infiniti download that will find missing music titles and update all of your untitled music. Has anyone tried this out? The link is actually through the G35 but I assume it works for all Music Box systems.

it doesn't find any of my titles, even though they are on CDDB. And they don't provide a way to edit that stupid dat file so you can force it to find the hex code library entry on CDDB.

I hate that tool.

In case you haven't already done so, you may want to check out this thread.

i discovered a corny but effective way to get MP3s to the music box. If you take an ALBUM and burn it to a CD-RW using WMP and WMP then reads the CD and recognizes the tracks you can take that CD and record it to the Music Box, which will pick up the track info. If you record an album to a CD-RW and WMP doesn't reread the CD track info it means it isn't readily available in the CD info database and it probably wouldn't do a lookup in the Music Box.

this only works with whole albums AFAIK. It is a slow way to do it as you have to burn audio CDs and then rip them back, but it works.

It is pretty shoddy that the MUSIC box cannot store and show album art while playing. That would be better to see at a glance than trying to read the song title.

So, it sounds like you have been able to get CD-RW's to work with the EX? I have not been able to do this successfully. The CD-RW's I'm using have been around for quite a while, so maybe it is a different generation or something. Probably the easiest thing to try would be to get a few new CD-RW's, but if anyone has any insight or a similar experience I would love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks!Rian

it is very finnicky with CD-RWs. I had one I'd only written to twice and it started not ripping it to the drive. I plan on trying a different one.

I was able to get this to work by making an audio CD with 'Roxio Creative Creator 9' and using a 'Maxell CD R+W'. Both ID3v1 and ID3v2 tags had information. Only the title and artist came through. Album information was blank, perhaps because this CD was my own collaboration. I was surprised of the speed at which the songs were ripped. After playing the first of 15 tracks, all 15 had been transferred. The gracenote search was not able to find any information. I hope this helps.

Very helpful, dmax!!

Did you have to explicitly configure Roxio 9 to write CD-Text?

Did you set the Music Box | Music Box Settings | Title Text Priority to "CD TEXT" or leave it at the default of "CDDB"? (per p.4-63 of EX35 Owner's Manual)

TIA,David

Hello dividedhighw, first let me thank you for all your good work here. Roxio 9 was on my new laptop and I did not touch a thing. I had tried creating a CD with Nero and it failed, (never been a Nero fan anyway). I had to go check about the music box setting, it is set for 'CDDB'.

Interesting ... good to know!

Hmm - wonder if it would pick up your Album Title if set to "CD TEXT"?

Cheers,David
