i just got my lease 2012 G37x navi and prem pack
they told me it had music box because it come with the 10gb harddrive
thats comes with the navi pack. i have been trying every type of cd there is
from the store to copies none of them shows a record option
i also used the same cd in my friends G37x with out navi pack he has the option and the
cd starts to record.
can anyone help me on this why im i missing music box did the deal ship lie about my car having a music box

You have to set it to record when you put a cd in. Check your owners manual....or I can look into it in a few days when I'm back in town.

The record option is not avalible when u put the cd in I have used the same discs in non navi pack g37 and they work for some reason it's has to do with the navi system. I ask looked at the owners manual it didn't really explain anything useful

"Automatic Recording (for CD)
When this item is turned to ON, the Music Box® hard drive/flash memory automatically starts recording when a CD is inserted."

See if that is on.

When I press menu when the cd is playing the only
Folder list, track list, and play mode is the options there is noting
That has recording options listed

Works fine on my '07. I'll have to punt to someone who has your year of G.

Mine has navi but I don't use the HDD for music.
You are correct, the music box is a partition that is almost 10GB. The total drive size is a 30GB auto grade IDE HDD.
It looks like laptop drive with spikes.

Does yours have a compact flash slot?
That's what I find is way easier to use. 4 or 8GB CF cards are cheap now.

Also, if you own an iPhone/iPodTouch, the 30pin to component cable is $3 off eBay.
You can use your own music, or if you have a decent data plan, stream. I use iHeartRadio (free app).

I believe you can use a 4 or 8G compact flash card, but the system will only read the first 2G.

I just plug in my jump drive or my Ipod to the USB port on my G37


I suppose to get these files into the music box they would have to be ripped to a CD first?

Yes, unless they changed it from the 2009's. I had to burn cd audio disks (not mp3) for the unit to load them to the HD. Took forever...but worked great after the time investment. Just had a few on hand and let 'em go while commuting.
