Playing around with the music box. Cool storage but I am wondering about the compact Flash feature. Does that allow me to store up to 8 GB of MP3 files with ID3 tags? This seems like the easy way to get all the music in the car
Can you search the compact flash files ie:folders albums?? any replies greatly appreciated before I run and buy a 8 Gb CF card and reader

I have a 2008 M35 with the Music Box.
The hard drive is pretty stupid and basically a waste of time and money. I smell the record industry having some influence into how the HD was implemented.
You have to directly burn an audio cd into the hard drive. You cannot (I could be wrong but I didn't see anything in the manual about it) copy mp3s directly into the drive.
The compact flash is more flexible in that respect. Plus the hard drive is only 9 gigs while you can buy 16 or 32 gig compact flash cards (they'll cost you though). While you can buy a perfectly decent 8gig card for $35 (low speed one but since you only write on the card now and then thats not a big deal).

If I am not mistaken there is a limit on how many songs or folders or both that can be put on a CF Card. I played around with a 8Gb and found some of the folders missing. I purchased a 8gb nano and now have nearly all my music in the car

Probably incompatibilities between cards that are regular CF and CF High Capacity. But yes, now that you mention it there probably would be an issue there. Most likely the number of songs you have per folder. I've ran into this issue with micro SDs and had to spread the songs out to more folders.

The Music Box and Compact Flash are good.
But you can not transfer files from one another in 08 MYou can only transfer song titles.
I rarely use the music box, but the compact flash is always playing, it just easier to transfer music,
I don't have an ipod but I'm sure if I did, I just use the ipod.But hey, you never get tired of options, CD, DVD, Music Box, CF Drive, Ipod Connector, Satilite radio....
