This is such a cool idea, but is really not usable. I don't own CD's (I download all of my music) and so to have to rip all of my CD's into it is a HUGE pain. Well, so I decided to use it for a bunch of speaker CD's I have. I spent a lot of time setting them up (mostly renaming the albums/tracks.) I had filled the drive to about 70%. Recently, all about about 30% of the tracks just disappeared. Each album now has 1 or 2 songs on it. Also, to search through these while driving it virtually impossible. You have to scroll through whole albums. Great idea and one of the reasons I bought the Murano. Terrible implementation and completely useless as of now.

That might be an issue for a warranty claim. I personally don't use the Musicbox feature other than ripping 2 of my CD's to try it out but I certainly wouldn't expect songs to disappear...ever. Any amount of unexpected deletion/removal is unacceptable. Since the unit uses a hard drive it makes me wonder what type of error message would be displayed if the disk started to have trouble. Hopefully it wouldn't consider all bad sectors a lost cause and drop the offending sectors and their associated files from the index. Data loss almost certainly has to be attributed to a failing hard drive of some sort since the design is a closed system.

laurin1, since you have an LE with the iPod connector and assuming you have an iPod, have you tried using the iPod or the CF slot as a workaround since you also mentioned that you already have your music in digital format? That seems not only faster, but easier to update than the Musicbox in your situation.

Workarounds aside, it still makes sense to have a Nissan dealer check into it. The Musicbox issue could have just been a weird bug but if its the disk it could get worse. IIRC, the navigation system is also on disk so I'm not sure how that could potentially become affected by a failing disk.

I use my iPod as well, but for music. I wanted to use the music box for these speaker CD's I have. I will talk to the dealer. I just wanted to see if anyone else had had that happen. I doubt it's a drive corruption - could be, but I work in IT and that's some nifty software to drop files that cleanly without errors. I figure it's a programming bug.

I have not had that happen at all. I would get it to the dealer, I am sure if anything, they would at least replace it, I wonder if there is anyway they can move your stored music from the existing hard drive to a new one.

I will talk to them about it, but to be honest, the controls are so bad for it, and the method of transfer is so restrictive, I doubt I will use it anyway.

It's sad that a feature with so much potential is so heavily restricted that it's usage is hindered.

I highly doubt the dealer will move the songs to a new unit or even if its possible for them to do so. From what I've read on the subject it's not that easy to just copy the files over. It's unlikely the dealer even has the necessary equipment on hand to perform that type of move. I only say that because if they did I doubt there would be so many threads on figuring out how to hack/modify the Musicbox. Somebody would have befriended/paid/bribed their dealer by now if that was the case. Those songs, all of them, will probably have to be ripped again. The bright side is that at least they won't disappear again...hopefully.

laurin1, you're probably right that it's a programming bug but it's a very serious one. How long are each of those tracks on CD?

Yea, it's not even worth my trouble.

The tracks are 5-7 minutes each.
