In comparison to what?
In my eyes, the '60s were the height of automotive styling for the most part.
So you get a great looking car that makes gobs of torque, is RWD, big, makes a blissful exhaust note...
What's not to like?
Just like today's cars, there was a huge range.
Musclecars are from an era where a different line of thinking ruled. Today, the "cool" cars are all tiny, with buzzy, rev-happy engines. Musclecars are about the opposite. They're big, monstrously powerful, with engines tuned for a lot of torque instead of astronomical redlines and on-paper performance. Mainly due to the tech of the day, they generally handled poorly compared to todays cars. But that doesn't mean they were all dogs outside the drag strip. There were a lot of race-derived models (something today's world is irritatingly short on) that were real track machines. Unlike today, though, the race models were usually only subtly different looking from their base-model cousins. No need for EVO boyracer crap. A flat black stripe and maybe some subtle fenderwork for wider tires and a hood scoop was about all. There were exceptions, of course, like the horrendously overdone Mustangs.
To my ears, there is still no sound on earth as wonderful as the rumble of a race tuned push rod V8. Nothing comes close.
