I recently acquired some xenon headlamp housings including the harnesses, ballasts, etc... The only things that weren't included were the lights. :(

Does anyone know what color temp and brand they use? (other than Nissan - they don't manufacture lights. They source them from somewhere).

They are d2s's - that much I know. I'm just curious as to brand and color temp. Are they the same as the g35/FX35/FX45 etc? I would imagine so.

I am thinking they are the same but I am not sure on who the supplier is. I havent had to deal with the headlights on a murano as of yet.

i believe all oem applications use a 4300k hid bulb. possibly from philips, osram, or denso? philips does make the "ultinon" hid bulbs that are about 6000k which looks light purple. oem applications look different in color because of the headlight housing (projector, parabolic, etc...) itself, not the bulbs.

Well, I found some brand new OEM d2s 4300K Philips Xenon bulbs for $79 each from Daniel Stern Lighting.

So the conversion from halogen reflectors to the HID projection lights was $760 - much cheaper than buying the whole kit from the dealership.

Installing the new housings, however, was a ***** with a capital B! I had to take the chrome-plastic grill off, the intake snorkus, the fender liners (to get to the rear bolts for the light), and the right and left support bars for the radiator. I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to get the stupid things out and at one point was convinced I was going to have to take the bumper off - which I did not want to do. From start to finish, the install took me about 3.5 hours. Now I could probably do it in about an hour and a half but UGH - it was a pain in the ***.

It was worth it, though. The HID's are much better than the halogens.

One thing, though - there are no high beams. I never noticed that before but there isn't even a spot for high beams. How do they work on the Muranos that come stock with the Xenon HID's? I was thinking about ditching the "useless" fogs, putting some higher output driving lights in there, and making them the "fogs".

Not a technical answer, but on my 04 Murano w/ HIDs, the single lamp changes from high to low - no separate lamp illuminates. I had to fuss with the elevation quite a bit to get the low beam setting to be correct. Setting "1" now is with the driver only; with "0" higher for two in the front seats and no loading. "2" and "3" are lower for alternative loadings, or just lowering for hilly roads.

Cheers,Brodie

So it comes with a leveling switch and hitting the high beams will put the position at the max height? My STi has a leveling switch but it also has seperate lights.

No, sorry - I misled you. The leveling is not actuated with the high beam. On the other hand, there is no discernible movement or additional lamp that comes on with the high beams. I have no clue what happens. Perhaps there's a separate element in the lamp housing (by "lamp" I mean what folks usually call the "bulb"). Regardless, there is only the single "lamp" and when highbeam is selected the higher beam comes on (from the same lamp). Curious.

the leveling door does pop up all the way when you flip to high beams [ you can actually hear it if your in front of the car] I forgot how it jumped from low beam to high but I belive it has to do with the reflective surface inside the assembly. I would have to look that info up to be sure. We covered it in new model breifly but that was 2 yrs ago and I have not had to apply it to any repair since so I cant quite remember but if I get a chance tomorrow I will look it up for ya.

That would be awesome if you could find out how to implement that on a retro-fitted Murano. I look forward to your reply.

AAALLLLLRIGHTY then. They operate as follows. when flipping the high beams on the bulb shade[leveler adjustment] pops up and the bulb moves forward to achieve high beam. As per the service manual the high and low beam are both done with the xenon bulb.
