I just purchased the wife a new 2009 'S' Monday but while driving home from work yesterday I saw a Murano with SE on the back cruising down I-35.

I thought the Murano only came in the S, SL and LE models....just curious, what is the SE ?

What you saw was a 2007 or older Murano SE. The quick way to tell a 2009 from a 2007 and older is to look for a rear roof antenna, no rear roof antenna than not a 2009. Obviously from the front the grill is a giveaway.

Enjoy the 2009!

Thank you for the info.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the Murano came out in 2003 and had a new model every year except 2008.....again curious, have there always been three models like now and was the SE the loaded model like the LE is now ?

Our new pearl 'S' is the AWD version that had the Conv. Package, splash guards, floor mats and rear bumper protector options already on it and we had the front drivers and passenger windows tinted, to match the other factory tinted windows, by the dealer prior to picking it up.

The sticker was $31,020.00 and I guess the only thing I wish it did have extra would be exterior door guard strips of some sort to protect the paint if someone opens their vehicle door and lets it hit our car......oh well.

It has only been four days since our purchase so I certainly can't give any sort of "review" yet but so far the wife is tickled to death with the car and especially likes the way it's built and rides higher which makes it much easier on the body (we're in our late 50's) to enter and exit than her low to the ground Mazda 626 DX that we just sold.....I drive a Chevy Silverado 1500 pickup which is also easy on my bad back to enter and exit.

Back in 04 (when we bought our SE), there were only 2 trim levels - SL and SE. They both offered the premium (adjustable pedals, roof rack, Bose), Dynamic control (TPS, stability control) and leather and cold (leather, heated seats and mirrors) packages.

The deal maker for the SE for me was the sportier suspension and HID headlights the SL didn't have. And, of course, the SE has the manual shift mode, something I originally thought was just a gimmick but my wife now uses on ice and snow covered roads. I'm also pretty sure - though I don't remember exactly - that the SE had slightly wider (like 1/2'' more) wheels. I know in later years the SE differentiated from the SL with 6 spoke instead of the standard 5 spoke wheels.

As our population grays, there is less demand for sportier cars. Keeping with this trend, Nissan has dropped the SE Mo and has softened up the Maxima as well. The standard trans is no longer offered in the Max - hence my current, old 5 speed one will likely be the last one of those I ever buy. And, let's face it, the Mo's appeal to lots of older folks (and many of them women) who couldn't care less about firmer tuned suspensions. So I doubt a sporty Mo will ever be offered again as well.
