Ok basically I got a cometic 1.2mm multy layer metal head gasket. after torquing the head down I had to remove the front cover cause I droped the timing chain and I wanted to make sure the thign didnt; skip any gears. and when I put the cover back on it bent the bottom layer of the gasket causing it to break in one end. (just in the front cover section a lilttle crack and it slit open) I basically took the head off and reseated the gasket. made sure it sat flat and re torqued everithing to factory spec. it looks like it is sealing/ seating poperly. but what do you guys think??? I have another metal head gasket laying arround that was only used once (car started amd heated to operating temperature maby 4 times???) but was sitting outside for a few months. what do you guys think I should do???

(didn't knwo how to make it a poll)

A) repalce gasket with new oneB) replace gasket with old oneC) it should / will be fine.

that part of the head gasket provides sealing between the head and the front cover... which is really only for oil pretty much.

You are supposed to put RTV on top of the front cover in conjuction with the HG material there so it should be fine for sealing oil.

And you DID put RTV on top of the front cover right? Otherwise, oil will slowly seap out where the head meets the front cover

ok good. if you did you should be ok because that part of the HG is only for oil sealing.
