I purchased my Versa a year and a half ago brand new - it's a 2007 SL with the CVT transmission. 3 months after I received it I had to bring it in because it kept stalling on me. At the dealership they told me that they had to replace a fuel check valve. Now, just this past month, and only a year and a half old with 21,000 miles on it, I discovered rust on the back trunk and had a hard time getting my car to start. I blamed the cold Michigan weather, but saw other old cars in the neighborhood starting right up and felt that something was wrong with my Versa. I brought it in again. I was told that apparently Nissan did not "seal" my trunk paint and they took my trunk off and totally repainted it. They also found that my fuel pressure regulator needed to be replaced. I don't know if that's the same thing that they replaced before as the repair work states two different things, but I am starting to think that I got a lemon. I understand that with new cars there are always kinks that need to be worked out, but I have never received recall notices on anything and am wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar? I love my Versa but am starting to feel disappointed. I even wrote Nissan about this and received an e-mail from them stating that they received my e-mail but never heard anything from them since. Other than this, my only complaint about the Versa would be that it is so light of a car that it doesn't handle wind well and tends to blow around the road easily.

I'm just wondering if I was alone in these fuel valve/regulator and rust problems...

all i have to say is the versa is not light, in fact its over weight, IMO. and the movement in the wind is because of how tall it is.

Yet another makes their first post regarding problems that happened in the distant past. But never bothered to post when it happened. Uh huh.

Maybe another Toyota or Honda rep casting their line...

Hey, I'm just saying.

Get that a lot here do ya? Most of the first posters in the other model and engine-specific forums are people looking for help. Maybe try to help?

Toyota and Honda builds better cars in this class. I don't think pretending to be a disgruntled Nissan owner is a needed or actual facet of their marketing campaigns.

I am not a "rep" or a "pretend" Nissan owner. I am actually a social worker who was looking for some help. Apparently I came to the wrong place. I Googled "Nissan Versa Problems" to see if I was alone or if anyone could assist me, and this is one of the sites that came up that actually had discussions of things that people were experiencing with their cars. I love my Versa. It is the first new car I ever bought. I ordered it in black, and when I got it I got the windows tinted. If I can figure out how, I will put a photo of my car up. So don't insult me by saying that I work for someone when I am only here looking for some help. If that's the kind of feedback I am going to get from a supposedly "supportive" network, then I am better off not getting any at all.

And Bubs daddy, I did state when my issues started. I bought my car a year and a half ago. Three months later I had my first problem. I have the paperwork from the dealer (My Import Auto in Muskegon). Then, just recently (now) I had to bring it in for the rust and then they told me about the fuel regulator. I just got it back today and have the paperwork for that as well. Luckily it is under warranty. However, my issue is if I am alone with these problems, not if I am not for real.

nice work bubs.

I am kind of at a disadvantage as far as helping with Versa trouble, my wife's car is a Japan spec Tiida and has not had a spec of trouble save for some bulletin item about the taillight which was taken care of in about twenty minutes.

The Versa seems to have some troubles, I beleive it is built in another factory and has different equipment and build quality.I will leave that to the stateside Versa guys with first hand experience to elaborate on that model.I just hang around here and pick on them for fun when my Skyline and 240 forums are slow and you caught me here

the fuel issues were problem with many versa (not all) and has always been taken care off under warranty, so your not alone there.

as for the rust issue, ive read about 1 other saying he had rust, but he also said it was on the plastic bumpers and starting on the surface going IN towards the metal, so....i dont know, they might have actually missed a step with your trunk, maybe.

oh and welcome

I never even thought about the height of my car being a factor in it's movement on the road when it is windy, which is surprising because everyone comments on how much room there is. And, one of the first things I noticed, having a child with a car seat in the back, was that I no longer bumped my head and pulled my back when getting her in and out of her car seat like I did with my old Contour! Thanks!

Thank you for the welcome! I am glad to know that I am not alone in the fuel issues! I never received any recall information; just had the problems appear. Hopefully they are resolved. I thought that maybe I got a lemon, but if others have experienced similar issues than perhaps it isn't so.

My rust happened on the lower left side under the metal trunk strip (above the trunk latch - I have a sedan) and above the "A" in the word Versa. I got it back yesterday repainted and it looks nice, although I worry about it reappearing in the future. The dealership assures me that it won't, so I am hoping!

Thank you for your help. There's nothing worse than feeling that you bought a new car and that you are alone in your issues. Of course the dealership tells me that I am the only one, so to get feedback from others is helpful. I tried to put a picture of my car on here but when I click "Insert Image" it doesn't give me a download option. It just says (IMG) in the text box. Now I can put a picture up of it with it's shiny "new" trunk!

There never was a recall issued on the fuel pump regulator, but the dealers are aware of the problem. My daughter had hers take too long to start, she took it in and they fixed it quickly. No problems since, and she's now got 25,000 miles with no further trouble. Mine, at 84,000 miles, never had the problem. As for the paint, it's chipped a couple of times at the front of the hood, but a bit of Nissan touchup paint and I've not seen any rust. Good luck with your trunk!

Because the Versa is pretty tall, it is affected by the winds. After lowering it with Tanabe springs it seems like the handling is much better with lateral wind - maybe because, except lowering, the rolling is reduce because of the harder springs.

As for fuel pressure regulator/valve, this is a known issue and should be fixed by the dealer under warranty.

I have 26k miles on mine in 1 year - no issues.
