I have had a few issues with my 2003 G35 lately. Just listing the problems 1 by 1 and hoping for some answer.

1. Keep getting the error code P1121 and this morning i got P0246. If I erase the codes, the car runs fine and the code pops up 3-4 days later. No issues with idling or power.

I have set up an appt with infiniti for a throttle body cleaning and resetting. Would that take care of it?

2. in 2009, running lights were installed on my G when I moved from US to Canada. If I turn on the AC, my running lights does'nt work (I just realised it last sat when I was returning after watching the fireworks...not sure how long this has lasted) but at night it is a real issue coz I have no headlight. If I turn on the headlight, there is still nothing...if I turn off the AC they come back on.

3. I have a rattling noise from the drivers side door...with the potholes in Montreal I have to keep hearing it all the time which bugs me...any idea how much it should cost to get it fixed at a local garage?

4. What parts (apart from spark plugs) needs to be replaced during a tune up for a first gen G35? Also, I have read some post regarding issues with NGK Iridium spark plugs. Should I upgrade from a platinum to iridium? My G has 88K miles, is it time for a tune up...I get very poor mileage and hence was wondering if a tune up is required.

Gurus, all your feedback are appreciated.

Thanks!

1.) I think that p1121 is a throttle control actuator. Check your throttle body on the car. See if its gunked up, which is a regular occurance. on code p0246, i've never experienced that code. May ahve to google. it.

2.) This is an electrical issue. I would take the car to the place that did your running lights and have them look at it. Maybe they tapped a wire that is on a relay with the a/c

3.) Really depends on what is causing the rattle. Try pushing on certain parts of the door and see if that solves the problem. Then take the door apart and see if you can put some dynamat there. No idea on cost. Shouldnt be too expensive

4.) Look in your manual. It will list everything that needs to be replaced at certain intervals. If you dont have a manual, you can download it easily from the internet. As far spark plugs, just use the OEM NGK platinum plugs. They do just fine and you will not notice any difference in the two plugs. The platinums are cheaper.

Thanks Fezzik,

I got the Service engine soon light this morning and then the car went into limp mode...i reset the ECU and then took it straight to the dealership. They said a complete fuel injection cleaning (including throttle body cleaning) should take care of the issue. They quoted me 119$+ tax.

As a courtesy, they said they will look into the rattling door problem and also the wiring for the running lights and provide me with an estimate.

Waiting to hear from the dealership.

Thanks once again!

* A complete fuel injection cleaning was performed including the throttle body cleaning and resetting the idiling. Apparantly there were plenty of deposits on the throttle body. (119$ + tax)

I hope I exp better gas milage. (14 mpg in the city, 18 mpg on freeways before the throttle body and fuel injection cleaning)

2. in 2009, running lights were installed on my G when I moved from US to Canada.

* Canadian tire screwed up with the installation...they took the connection off the A/C unit...the dealership will rewire it the right way and take it off a different point. They also mentioned using new cables and a new relay. (185$+tax)

3. I have a rattling noise from the drivers side door...with the potholes in Montreal I have to keep hearing it all the time which bugs me...any idea how much it should cost to get it fixed at a local garage?

* They found one of the motors having a problem..part+labor quoted over 200$...decided not to do it...they will provide me with the P/N...planning to buy the part online and have it fixed at a local garage.

* I was advised...at 87K the car is in good shape and that a tune is not required..They recommended a tune up close to 100K miles. Also recommended using a platinum spark plug instead of the iridium one as many first gen G's are getting SES light on when the iridium spark plugs are installed.

*I also got the 60K maintenance package done...which involves a complete check up and lubrication of the car, flushing and replacement of coolant, Automatic transmission fluid, differential fluid, brake fluid...replacement of air filter...surprisingly replacement of in cabin microfilter was considered extra...so I decided to do it myself. (449$+tax)

Hope this info will help someone.

Thanks!

sounds like your car should be all set after all that work thats being done. i had that intake cleaning done on my old g35x and it did result in better gas milage and idle.

in the future change your intake filter and cabin filter your self, they are around $100 each to change if the dealer does it.

IMO the intake filter should be done labor free, especially on the 2007+ Gs cause its just in a slot, requires no effort to change. i kinda understand the charge of the incabin filter, its not a fun job... still over priced labor.

I finally got my car from the infiniti dealership last afternoon....they were having a hard time fixing the running light issue and eventually called some technicians who are experts to fix the problem. Apparantly the relay and the cables were not strong enough and would get heated up which resulted in the running light malfunctioning.

After the throttle body clean up and the idle resetting, which was performed by the dealership, I got a check engine light this morning and the car totally went into limp mode.

The VDC, SES, Slip, Brake, all the lights turned on, the car started but the rpm would not go over 1000. I have my own OBD2, I reset the SES light and then the car started without the lights. I called the dealership and they say that without the SES light they cannot troubleshoot...and the problem is with the ses light the car goes on to limp mode and I cannot get it to the dealership.

I spend 1263$ in the last 1 week on my car and at this point I am very frustrated. I am not sure if this SES light and the car going on to limp mode has got anything to do with any of the previous problems.

P1121 ...turned out to be a bad throttle body...replacing throttle body today..... parts + labor = 375$+tax.

I am told, its not the running lights...

Spent 1700$ over the last 1 month..phewwww
