My wife called me tonight and said her M45 was acting up. Its a 2006.

She said she was on the highway going home and the started to run sluggish like it was running out of gas (yes there is gas in it), the battery light came on, the service light came on and it started to overheat.

Wow, all that going on at once. I won't see the car for a couple of days. She will be using her sisters car.

Have any of you experienced all those symptoms at one time?

On a completely different issue the brake light has been on what seems like forever but no mechanic can figure out why. Even the Nissan dealership.

Any help with the experts?

Thanks in advance.

Not so sure on your first three as they resulted in overheating the car!! Maybe look into your radiator and coolant!! My first Infiniti (a '95 j30) would light up my brake light on the dash when I had my "third" brake light out!! Check that if you haven't already... The "bulb" that is!! :gotme

Could be a number of things. Best bet would be to get the codes read if it's safe to drive the car.

Thermostat or water pump could be bad.
Alternator could be on its way out.
Could be time for new spark plugs.

I know with Nissans, if you brake and battery light is on, that means a failing alternator. Could be the same for the M

Well I will need to check it out. I have heard that if the service light and battery light come on it could be the alternator. I hope she didn't overheat the damn thing and caused some serious damage.

I never got a chance to check out my wifes car. She added coolant and drove it again and said she lost almost all engine power when she drove down the block. A mechanic friend of hers checked the car out and saw a belt was shredded. So he is going to replace it.

could that belt make the car lose engine power? Does it send it into limp mode?

Yup. Just read the manual on your engine. The belt drives the water pump, AC, alternator and power steering so these symptoms sound right. The brake light is something different and I would have the codes read at an autozone as altm35 suggested.

The brake light issue has been ongoing for a while. It has been reset but came back on.

The front struts were replaced 3 months ago and the front end is riding rough again like when they went out before. I bought a set of KYB struts.

Not sure if the struts have anything to do with that brake light tripping a sensor but I need to get the front end checked out again.

Oh man, I'd budget for a replacement engine. Driving without a water pump is not the smartest!

She wasn't driving it for a long time with that belt missing. Only a half mile or so.

Don't need to jump ahead that much.

Reminds me of a time I owned a 1.8t beetle. The water pump went (impeller exploded). I was on the highway doing 125. Stopped at the side and coolant was spraying out of gawd knows where. I turned up the heater and drove in manual limp mode to a garage about 25 km away. No probs with the engine.
