Multi-point Inspection Woes

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hi,

I took my EX35 to my local Infiniti dealer for scheduled maintenance (oil change) and as usual received the "complimentary" multi-point inspection. When I collected the car nothing was mentioned about the inspection but when I got home I noticed a red tick against power steering fluid. I called them about this and they said that meant the fluid was dirty and needed to be flushed for $120 - I said I'd pass until the next service.

The next month I took it in because the "Service Engine Soon" light came on (see other post) and after they fixed that I received another multi-point inspection and this time the power steering fluid was marked green. I had done nothing with the fluid since the original inspection.

I think we all know the multi-point inspections are just a money making scheme for the dealer. I am thinking of writing in to Infiniti USA about this because its clear they recommending things are done to the vehicle which are not required so assuming they are breaking the law.

Anyone had similar experiences?

Thanks.

You could have had different techs working on the vehicle between last time and this time. Everybody has their own opinion on things. Tech 1 could have thought it was ready for a change, while Tech 2 didnt.

Slimy.
My wife took her RX for a free oil change about 4-5 years ago... she told the shop she was driving from AZ to Cal and then after the oil change, they tried to tell her that the radiator was starting to leak and needed to be changed before her trip because they didn't want her 'stranded in the desert'. She told me and I went over that radiator with a fine tooth comb and found no leaks, no dried up leaks and a full res (telling me it never leaked). I called them and lit them up for trying to scam her using fear and never went back there again. Oh, that radiator is still fine too. People can suck. I think that's when a went back to doing my own maintenance!

No problems so far from Infinity but my wife and I have had two different Toyota dealers give us service warnings on two different Highlanders that involved expensive estimates on things like a driveshaft. Had them checked out by my local mechanic and they were BS. Drove the cars for thousands of miles afterward without a problem. Once the dealer was so intent on the fabricated problem that they actually forgot to do the service I went in for. I still have one Highlander with 217,000 miles on it, and never got the repair done!
