My last post kinda died out already, and wasnt really about this any ways so here goes. What happens to the sound/flow if you move the muffler toward the front of the car, and still have quite a bit of pipe after it? Trucks do it all the time, but I can't really expect my car to sound like that, despite the engine.

it should sound the same i think if u left everything still there. depending on what kind of muffler it is tho. a stock muffler design has more noise cancellation properties (baffles, holes, stuffing). i was thinking about getting rid of my muffler and resonator and just running a 3inch pipe all the way. my neighbors dont like me anyway, might as well.

I don't know either, I thought having a lot more pipe after it might make the sound quieter, or deeper or something like that. Oh well, I've got a friend that is doing some of that body shop schooling during highschool, maybe I'll have him give it a try.

i wanna weld up my own s traight pipes after the resonator...and eliminate the gauddy n1 muffler and just tig weld a straight stainless piece on there, it iwll also help in trimming my new body kit which i would like to keep to a minimum. looks will improve for sure..but i don't want it to be toooo tooo loud...is anyone in the know on this sort of thing..any one tried it?????? my car is not that loud as of now even with out the silencer and its an s14sr20det by the way.

By moving your muffler further up the line it will make your car quieter. It won't be a huge difference though.

but what im talkin about is, removing muffler all together and basically turbo back, there is a "test pipe" and the built in resonator in most ss cat back kits, and then, where the n1 fart cannon that takes up alot ground clearance and looks ridiculous, just be replaced with a 3 inch s.s. welded on straight pipe...

Well..... If its got a fart can, then there probably isn't very much "muffling" being done by it as they are just straight through and W/ nothing but fiberglass or mesh on the inside. It would be a little louder though. If you want somehting that'll be quieter try looking at magnaflows website. they've got some O.E. looking mufflers that offer high flow and it'll give it a good rumble. heres the link.......http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/stre ... in.%20Oval
