Any of you guys have any failures with the muffler? I remember when I started driving I drove a 1991 sentra, the muffler would fall off after a few years of driving each time.

I have no problem yet, but I've only had mine for a year so it's still fairly new.

I DID! Muffler on my 2007 Versa corroded and fell off after only two years and 38K! The new OEM part (the only available) cost me $499. The same thing happened with brakes, I had to replace not only pads, but also rotors after only 30K and had to pay $600 just for OEM parts (warranty didn't cover it). The trunk lock also broke - but that at least was covered by the manufacturer's warranty. I like my Versa but I started hating Nissan. Now just waiting what is next to fall apart and how far goes the pricing imagination of the Nissan OEM parts divission.

All the ads about the Nissan reliability and quality (that made me buy a Nissan at first place)... ridiculous! Nissan is the Japanese variant of GM. Never more!

Salt most likely got to your muffler, need to wash it off more often.

30k is possible to wear out brakes, depending on how you drive.

OH damn... That's some expensive repairs. Like Biggie said though, salt got to your car. You should do under car washes more often. During winter time we are plagued with bad weather and salt so for me under car washes is a must. I own a 2007 Versa as well and thank goodness I haven't shared your misfortune. I'm at 42K on my car now and I haven't had any issues like that. Just to recall now, I have had them replaced the rotors (no brakes) about a year ago which was about 30K as well, but they did that under warranty. Other than that only regular maintenance services have been done. And to add to that I've looked under my car recently when my rims where being installed and its still looking good...

I didn't take a pic. They took the muffler away at the shop. It corroded and teared apart at the joint with the exhaust pipe.

The exact thing just happened to my 2007 versa at 44k miles. The weld that connects the muffler to the pipe snapped right off while driving normally. I do live in a place with lots of salt, but that is ridiculous. I have had several older cars that I washed less not drop a muffler. I can upload a pic if anyone is interested.

Anyway, does anyone know of a replacement muffler that can be installed without any welding that is not the $400 part from the dealer?

Thanks

mumsnarf, yes, post a pic, please. I'm paranoid about my whole exhaust. I have a 2009 Versa 1.8, and there are already a lot of rusty spots on the pipes and the muffler and resonator. The dealer says "don't worry about it, it's just surface rust. These exhausts last at least 8 years". We'll see.

I called a local Meineke about the cost to replace a muffler, and he had no clue. Wanted me to bring the car over to him.

Is there any warranty on the original factory exhaust ? The warranty booklet is kind of vague.

The warranty on the exhaust was 36000 miles in Wisconsin. Don't know if it would be different anywhere else. I will post some pics tonight.

36k/3 years is standard for bumper to bumper warranty. The exhaust should fall under that. Powertrain (engine, trans, etc.) will fall under the 50k mile warranty. CVTs now get a 10 year warranty.

I looked under my car in the driveway. Lots of salt on the muffler. More salt on the muffler than the regular underbody. Got out the hose and sprayed the whole exhaust down. Cold. I won't take it to a carwash because there are weak screws holding the shielding on.

Here are the pictures of the broken weld. I am not a professional welder, but this looks like a bad weld to me.

Where is the broken weld? I don't see a crack or gap in the metal in those pictures.

The pipe in the first picture is supposed to be welded into the hole in the second picture. The two pieces just separated.
