I went to the muffler shop to ask them about their pricing for pipes and they took a look under my car and said 150 for pipes. I was cool with that and then they asked me what size pipings and i told them 2 1/2, now i notice atleast half and im sure more has 2 1/2 inch pipings thats why i told me thats what i wanted. He told me that should get 2 1/4 though because i won't lose as much low end. Now i know thats true but high end could make up for the loss right. Well what size pipings do you guys think i should get?

No need for bigger than 2.25 - Unless you're S/C or turbo'ed.

You may lose some low end torque (which a 240 desperately needs).

Jesse (IH8URDSM) has a lot more expertise in this area - You should hit him up.

What? I've got enough torque to spin into 3rd gear if I wanted to. Quella spin into 3rd can she? :icesangel

Must be the Borla. Now, if I had Borla stickers all over my car I would REALLY be making some power!!!!

Must be the skinny tires and the wet pavement then.... You'd be in the 14's if you could JUST get some TRACTION! LOL :D

Quella's big fat a$$ keeps her 245's planted pretty firmly. No scratch except in first...:(

Yes, that's 2". Like Hitman said, 2.25 is an upgrade. Mine is 2.25, stainless, Borla. Great exhaust. You can get one at http://www.courtesynissan.com They're mostly discontinued but you can get one there.

I have 2 1/2 and noticed absolutly no loss in power anywhere in the power band. A couple of friends have exhausts with 2 1/2 and experienced no loss, these were on other cars however.

Why is that? I'd rather make my car faster. I'd rather have the same torque peak, just at a higher RPM than a marginal gain in low-end torque. Read my post on this thread about why high end torque is better.

"faster" is a relative term.

You're not going to "gain" anything with the larger pipes, especially if you've minimized restrictions with the cats and muffler.

You DO want the low end torque, even a marginal gain - That's where your engine spends most of its time. Look at successful autocross cars.

A good example - Your car will SMOKE my Q across an intersection. But I'm a blur from 40 on up. I'd give anything for the potential for some more low-end, but that's not the way the powertrain was designed, and I'm not willing to sacrifice my top-end for it.

Either way, if your're not stuffing more air in, there's little need to open up the system to let more out...

I went to 2 1/2 on red and cut her cat off and i picked up .4 in the 1/4

Now hitman I can light my 245's on the interstate in the rain slamming into 4th gear but 245's can slide great when the lsd kicks in during a turn

Atta boy Robbie - Although the restriction was primarily the cat, i'm pretty certain.
