i had planned on getting an rs*r exmag system but id rather not spend the 540 on it and something else. the greatest thing that appealed to me about this system was how quiet it is. I'd like to consider a muffler shop, do you guys think they could make a 3" thats quiet and not restrictive? theyll probably put resonators in to quiet it down, will that make it restrictive/hinder performance? any input welcome.

You might want to look at BRM exhausts. They have a variety of piping size options. They're supposed to be pretty quiet and they're not to expensive either.

When I had my CA S13, I had a muffler shop crush bend me a 3" catback, with a Border muffler from pdmracing, and a carsound hi-flow cat that I provided. It wasn't loud, sounded great, and I bet the flow was very comparable to a high-end mandrel bent system. It cost me $100 for the muffler, $100 for the piping/installation, and $120 for the cat.
