I have a little decision to make and i wanted to know what everyone else thinks. I want to get an exhaust and i thought about buying one that includes the piping, but as we all know they run at least five hundred. So i was contemplating on the cheaper route, getting a good muffler, and getting the muffler man to do the piping. The real question is what muffler. im looking at either an apexi n1 or an hks carbon fiber muffler. the hks one is a huge 170mm and takes 70mm piping. the apexi takes 90mm. there is a 90 dollar difference between the two mufflers. the hks costs more and both are authentic and arent the Bomb series type r stage III mufflers. tell me what ya think.

You have to be carefull with sizes. You don't want to go to big because the engine needs some back pressure. Having a huge muffler hole would be the same as having no muffler at all. You can actually end up losing horse power. Although I heard hks is a good muffler. If you want to go inexpensive and still get some power look for some turbo mufflers. I have those one my malibu and they only costs 30 a piece.

You do NOT need backpressure. What you want is to maintain high exhaust gas velocity. Too large a pipe will slow down the gas too much and you will lose the scavenging effects the exhaust manifold provides. But any loss in power will not be because of too little backpressure. But even then, you with a pipe that is too large, low exhaust gas velocity will usually only be an issue at lower RPM's. At higher RPM's the motor will flow a lot more air and should be enough to fill up a fairly large exhaust. The velocity should be ebough to promote the lost scavenging effects.

Well I can't always be right:D

I still like the turbos though. inexpensive and they do the job without making it to loud.

Well, 2.5" piping is a good choice. Good for both n/a and turbo. how many 'mm' is 2.5"??

Roughly around 65mm.

I had Midas install their own Flowmaster-type muffler called a Ravin, and I went with the single-tip output. It sounds great and it could just be in my head but it felt like I gained a little bit of top-end.

mandrel bent is not very special...there is really very little difference between mandrel and crush bent

anyways, i'd go with an Apex'i N1 muffler and have them replicate the N1 cat-back exhaust system...you'll get very similar performance for like half the cost

i think i'm gonna do that when my KA-T is finished, except w/ the JIC exhaust...i relaly like that one

do yall think it would be best to get the apexi n1 NA or the apexi n1 turbo? the turbo takes a three inch inlet while the NA takes 2 and change inlet.
