The flanged pipe that is connected to muffler has rusted through and broke off, so obviously the exhaust is very noisy when I step on gas.

I have only 69K mi on my Murano! I noticed it when it was only 65K.

Muffler shop told me that it can't be welded (because the pipe rusted), and they'll need to replace the whole thing at ~$1,400 !!!!

Are there any other options? Is it normal to happen only after 65K???Any chance it could be covered by any warranty?

please help!

Thats not very typical here in the "south" but with the salt on the roads ect.. I can see it in your area. I would recommend looking around to find "custom" muffler shops, and even custom car shops to get quotes. You can go with "After market" pipes and Mufflers and spend WAY less than $1400. Just shop around for the materials/supplies and then for the labor to weld it up and install it. You may have to drive out to the "country" for the best prices. Hope this helpsThanks"86"

thanks for your help. I went to Monro Muffler - that's who quoted me $1,400 ($300 less if they save the chrome plated tips). My next stop is the Nissan dealer. Will probably be $2,000

Since it doesn't influence your safety I'd wouldn't buy an oryginal part. BTW, shouldn't you sitll have a warranty (it should be covered)?

i had the muffler pipe break off at the connection to the long pipe. not sure if this is what happened to you. i went to midas and they used a sleeve to reconnect the pipes and just welded it together. the cost was $120. it has held up very well. that muffler is stainless steel and runs about $400.

Same thing happened to me on my 2005 murano. The muffler is in good shape, it is just the diamond shaped end that rusted which is not stainless. The worst part is that it wouldn't have broken, except for that the dealer was doing the recall catylic converter gasket replacement and bent the pipe down so low they broke it. Jerks.

If I'm not mistaken the recall should cover any additional parts that break or would be would be needed for the recall.

I had an 85 Mercury that was recalled for new catalytic converters. It was an old winter beater I bought for $750. I asked them who's responsible when the old exhaust system falls apart due to the recall. They said ford would cover it and they did. They just about replaced everything back to the muffler including the crossover at zero cost to me.

Ironic...I had about $1,500 dollars worth of free work done on a car I bought for $750. I would have sold it to them for $1,200
