Own an 01 I30t with 100k on it. Recently the exhaust has changed pitch and is louder. The single muffler has two exhaust "pipes" coming from it. However, I find exhaust only coming from the outboard pipe, the inboard has nothing. Is this right? Can the muffler plug internally?

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

I believe that there's an internal valve that only opens the second outlet @ higher R.P.M's/pressures.

A louder than normal noise from the exhaust may indicate a busted muffler and/or holes on the exhaust pipe. Check the condition of the muffler and the exhaust pipe. Look for rust hole(s) and inspect the welded areas at the joints.

External inspection shows no leakage or holes. Are broken internal baffles common on these mufflers?

Get a friend to help listen and while the car is running put you
hand (PLEASE wear a heavy duty glove) over the end of the
tailpipe and see if there is any areas blowing out
