muffler location vs sound?

does the location of a muffler affect how it sounds. For instance, im thinking about putting a muffler somewhere underneath the middle of the car and from their have a straight pipe come out the rear. is it going to be the same sound as if the muffler was at the rear of the car?

There might be a slight difference but nothing too noticeable I bet.

yea i was thinking about doing that, that way its not too flashy in the rear with the "pull me over muffler."

I personally think straight pipes are dumb for the most part unless you have a powerful car.

But when it looks like a straight pipe and isn't, that's even dumber to me. But whatever floats your boat I guess.

the key is trying to keep the looking low profile because i live in Calipornia where the Nazi police patrol the streets.

Maybe you shouldn't even have it exit out the back then.

Just run the muffler where you were going to and cut it off there. That's with the muscle car guys do. See it alot on older trucks.

thats what i was thinking.Or use on of those breakaway valves the muscle car guys use.

The tail will will look completely stock and when you feel like you need to e.g cops nearby. actually run the fumes through there.

But when its time to tear it up, have the valve open to the atmosphere.
