I am looking for a new direct fit muffler for my 96 I30t. There are two dealer mufflers for both the Maxima and I30, 20100-40U25 for vehicles after 7/1/96 and 20100-38U27 for vehicles up until 7/1/96.The exact same part numbers are for each vehicle with the same date restrictions on each Maxima and I30. Being dealer parts they are very expensive. I have identified two after market mufflers. One is Bosal 145-703 and the other is Walker 21182. The Bosal does not have any date restrictions listed. The Walker does, it is listed as from 7/1/96 for the I30 and for 95-99 Maxima’s. This does not make sense to me because if the Walker will work for the 95 Maxima’s and all later Maxima’s then shouldn’t it work for all I30’s as well? If the Walker unit can replace both Nissan part numbers for the Maxima shouldn’t it be the same for the I30? Does any one have any experience with this conundrum? The Walker muffler is Stainless steel and the Bosal is Aluminized steel so there is a difference. I would prefer stainless since I live in the “rust belt” but don't want to use it if it will not fit or will cause an installation issue. My vehicles build date is before 7/1/96.
