My '06 M35X has 85K mileage and I am here in Massachusetts. The muffler on the passenger side is disconnected from the pipe. I noticed it when i looked at the exhaust tips and there were not level. I looked under the car and noticed that the muffler is not connected at the clip and it is all rusted. A lot of rust. The muffler itself seems OK but there was no way to force the disconnected muffler back into the pipe/clamp . My questions are: Is this premature? Could it have been caused by my hitting something and not knowing it? Two months ago I went to the dealer complaining that the mufflers seemed a little loud and they said they found nothing wrong. Seems to me that this may have been related.
So what to expected and is this a fix or should I do the entire exhaust system? Thanks

I didn't quite understand 100% where the separation occurred, did the muffler pipe break of or are you missing the bolts to where the muffler bolts on to the mid pipes?? Either way, this shouldn't be an expensive fix as long as your muffler is not damaged! Any good muffler shop can cut and weld a good piece of exhaust pipe and solve your problem. Also, if you were at the stealership just two months ago, they should have noticed something... :gotme

Thanks. The muffler seems fine but it's not connected. The clamp is there where the pipe goes into the muffler. I think you are correct in that if anything needs to be replaced it is the pipe leading into the muffler. Appreciate you response

Thanks Bodyguard you were absolutely right. Went to Muffler Man in Dorchester MA who was great. For $125 he welded a short piece of pipe after cutting off the flange on the pipe and muffler on both the right and left side. He thinks it will put off replacing the exhaust system for a year. It seems I'll need to replace the pipes and resonator and muffler from the "Y" back. Estimate from the dealer was in excess of 1K for exhaust system from the Y back.

So I looked into the new M37X but am disappointed in the BS with the packages and the price. Pay so much more beyond yearly appreciation and get less than I have now. Sticker shock :bs: ...Bottom line... I'll be looking at a Lexus as well as the Lincoln MKX ( not at dealer yet) which seems to be a formidable competitor to our M. I'll never be a BMW, Audi or Mercedes patron but if Infinti keeps getting greedy I may need to reassess .
