Hey guys,

I'm looking at getting a Flowmasters 40 Series muffler since my previous one exploded.

My distributor was on wrong and I was trying to start it over and over so I believe that putting gas into the engine caused to fume buildup in the muffler...

Few Questions:

1. Am I correct in assuming that?

2. What is the diameter of the stock exhaust? (I'm not around my car at the moment or I would check.)

3. How big of a difference is it with only the muffler as compared to the whole exhaust system? (besides price obviously.) :chuckle:

Thanks,

Javin.

Anyone have any info on flow masters or magnaflow mufflers?

I can't get either website to pull up information regarding the mufflers that I'm trying to purchase...

Do they not carry 1.75" diameters?

Do I need to get a complete new system?

Thanks

You're looking for this one then → :bump:

Sorry, I have done precisely no work on my exhaust system so I don't have any insight, but why not just head to a muffler shop and see what they say? Most places are really cool and will make it as easy as buying a new stereo. I only suggest it because they'll have good working knowledge of what your options are, and be able to best advise you based on the sound, performance and budget you have in mind.

That's what I'll end up having to do I guess. I work 9-9 6 days a week so my time is limited as to going to a shop.

I was hoping that at least 1 or 2 of the guys on here with Flowmasters or Magnaflow systems would chime in.

From what I've researched, my exhaust has a 1.75" INLET and 2.0" OUTLET. Flowmasters and Magnaflow only carry the smallest INLET of 2.0".

I don't have much knowledge of exhaust systems so my questions are probably vague or ambiguous.

Questions:

Do I need to replace my Cats to get a larger Pipe System to fit a 2.0" INLET?

If that is the only way to get the muffler that I want, I will probably just put a replacement muffler on now so I can pass my inspection and attain a new registration... (Both are out at the end of this month :ohno: )

I hear you; hopefully the long hours are being made worth your while.

Hopefully someone will pipe in. You could try searching for threads on the subject and PM'ing other users. It looks like Bosal sells direct-replacement mufflers too. Dunno how they compare to Flowmaster or Magnaflow.

My guess is a shop can/will adapt from one size to the other if you go with bigger openings, so you won't need new cats just for this. Magnaflow and Bosal do sell cats for us though...
