So I finally have my black a/c 2.5 mt convience package at my house and was wondering what all you mt folks experience was with learning on the altima coupe or driving the manual in general.

Both my parents know how to drive stick so they will teach me but I wanted to get your advice about the best way towards going about it. Most driving schools will send a driver to your house to practice on your car but I was hoping to practice on a beat up old car to get used to first. If there are any first time stick drivers who learned on the coupe I would love your input and experiences.

Thanks alot for the info.

first of all congrats on your coupe. I too have a black 2.5 6mt. when i received it i had some prior experience driving friends manuals, so consequently I had the general idea. I picked it up pretty much in one afternoon. The only trouble I had was getting used to the coupe's clutch since its a hydraulic clutch, and also just remember the ratio with the gas and clutch. Once you learn it it becomes pretty much second nature. I would say just to have one of your parents teach you, thats what I did. But other than that good luck and happy driving!

Thanks sc I appreciate it, I too have a general idea, have driven manuals in parking lots a little but never on a main road or anything like that. My main concern is just ruining the clutch or effecting it in a negative way. My mother drove the car home and said it is a very easy car to drive manual on so I don’t think it will be as hard as I anticipated. I called a couple driving schools too see if they had mt cars i could practice on but they said they only send a driver to my place to practice on my car. I guess I'll do that even though a little ambivalent. Any more information would be great from you fellas, thanks for the input.

when I get my 3.5 it will be my first Manual. My brother took me out 3 times, about 1/2 hour each time, in his WRX and it was pretty easy to pick up. The only thing that really concerns me, living in PA, is starting off on hills, since that is mostly what we have. But everyone just says it will take practice.

Spend as little time as possible engaging the clutch as you can.Do not use your clutch as a brake.Find a resource on how a clutch works and study that.
