aight, higher power ignition means hotter and more complete burn, which in turn means more power.

is that what you want to know or not?

MSD= multiple spark discharge. MSD ignition systems up the spark output and also gives you multiple sparks for 20 degrees of crank rotation.

The bare system is the 6A, it can be had for around $150, and you'll need a 8910 tach./fuel adaptor. The ECU's trouble code 21: Ignition signal missing, will be triggered if you do not use this adaptor or not run at all. It is around $26.

I've ran the 6A for a while now, and I like it a lot. Not an upgrade that gives you big HP's (3-5 max), but is a great compliment to cam/induction upgrades. Cleaner burn, easier starts, better mpg, etc. Not bad for $176.

FYI, the only hard part about installing it is finding a space big enough for it. The MSD is not huge, but it is flat and big enough to give you some problems especially if you already got aftermarket parts that are taking up space. I ended up mounting it where my AIV used to be with a custom mounting of 5/8" fire rated plywood painted black.

That's a write up I found that has the wiring diagram with 240SX specific notes on them. Hope it helps you.

Also, it should be noted that the MSD system does NOT spark multiple times above something like 3krpms as its unnecessary at that point. It helps a lot with idle and quicker throttle response at lower rpms. It helps the upper rpms by just being a hotter burning spark that is harder to blow out (important for turbo ka guys such as myself). Furthermore, you will only need the tach adapter for 89-90 and 95-98 240's, it seems to work fine without one for the 91-94's. I have a 7al-2 with 3 step rev limiter and an HVC II coil on the way, we'll see how it holds up to 17-24psi of boost. I think I'll be able to make more power by running a larger plug gap than I normally would at those levels and have better daily driveablity :)
