MSD SS Blaster Coil

I have a little money to spend and am itching to install something on the car. I already ordered the ASP crank pulley, but want something else also.

Currently I don't have the cash for a full ignition system (I am prepping for a turbo by summer's end, already have a clutch) so I was thinking about getting just a coil. The rest of the ignition is perfect, new NGK plugs, dist. cap, OEM wires...

Will just a coil make a difference? I am looking for maybe a few hp or so, but mostly gas mileage and to make the engine smoother. Will a coil alone make any kind of difference, or will it not even work without an ignition system?

Depending on the answers, I may just wait and get everything at once, MSD 6-AL, Coil, Tach adaptor at a later date.
