Bad titles sure make searching useless. There are 4 pages of threads entitled "knock sensor question" or the like.

Anyway,

Anyone have opinions / experience with MSD knock sensors for the SOHC?

I plan on just getting the XS Knock lite and Im getting a knock sensor off of a DE and just gonna use that. Plus the XS knock lite has shift light capabilities.

I used one on my Skyline back in the day, ok about 4 years ago. I had no O2 at all, I used the knock meter to tune my alcohol injection. Add alky, add boost till knock occurs...repeat.

Saved me quite a few times. I used the MSD Knock Meter...work good last long time!!!

I ran one on the KA for a while but its such a loud and rough running motor that it would pickup knock when there was obvioulsy no knock, although I had a slight dpipe rub at the time so this could have been contributing to it. This was my experiance with it, maybe on a smoother running motor like the SR or RB it would work better.

Worked awsome on the RB20...I did have to turn down the sensitivity on the KA alot. Between the timing chain and external WG...she was loud.

Here the XS knock lite actually learns your engine vibrations at various RPM's and adjusts the sensitivity.

you can read about it here. Im trying to get my hands on DE knock sensor and see how it works out .

The key is to use the knock sensor designed for the motor.

You are correct but what about people like me that have a SOHC and didnt come with a knock sensor. So I kinda went along the lines that maybe if I use the DOHC knock sensor I could be close. Their still both KA's although quite different in design.
