Ok. Forgive my ignorance if i'm asking a really dumb question, but for the couple of us having MAFS problems, would't it be chaeper to but the Megasquirt E manage unit that to keep buting 400$ MAFS or taking it to a shop? Since Devious uses his on the itb setup he has, a MAFS isn't really needed, or is it? It seems that 150$ for the MS is WAY better than the headaches i have a feeling i'll be in for with a bad MAFS. Is this possible, or is a MAFS needed for the MS as well?

IMO if you can't figure out your MAFS problem(s) you won't be able to figure out a MegaSquirt.

MS isnt the most difficult system but is "hands on". Some PC knowledge and wiring/soldering skills is handy but most can be learned along the way. Most likely much more difficult that getting your MAF oem system to work properly, id do that first. With MS you also have to build your own engine harness or adapt oem ones in hybrid custom fashion, this is more labor/time intensive that assembling the actual ecu.

MS uses MAP sensor, no maf or afm needed.

I dont have many other ideas on that maf problem, other than what i posted. If the parts have been swapped out with same problem, its either in the wiring or the connections.

Wow, thanks for the hint on this Megasquirt thing. Kinda looks neat and right up my alley, as an Electrical Engineer.

I may have to go get a few junker domestic small blocks and play with this Of course once I have it all figured out then I would move to the KA. I particularly like this line in the manual: "In order to make the MegaSquirt controller work on YOUR car, boat, chainsaw, or whatever, you will need".

Chainsaw?

OT, but yeah, chainsaw too. MS can control 2 stroke engines too. A while back, some guy supposedly snail'd a ride along lawnmower and controlled it/tuned it with MS.

I think they have also been used in some fuel injected radio controlled planes and stuff.

From turbo lawnmower to 6 second drag car.

The first thing you need to do is some serious checking of your wiring & connectors. My WIRING was bad to mine that caused a most annoying intermittant problem that finally got to be a continuous problem- I replaced the sensor, cleaned all the connectors- basically went nutson it- to no avail. I happened to buy a salvaged 240 as a parts car and on a lark I cut the part of the harness off of it as far back away from the MAF as I could get and soldered/spliced the harness and connector on my car- and presto- it was fixed. I NEVER was able to find the problem even with the bad part of the old harness out of the car on the bench- it whipped me for a year or more- but that 5 feet of harness and connector solved my problems. I aggree with some of the other posts- you need to get the stock system working correctly- trust me- most mechanics are NOT gonna take the time to find your problem- either you spend some big bucks paying a really sharp guy to track it down- or you do it yourself- you know the old saying: If you want it done right....
