A new addition arrived yesterday.
On a cold weekend in March with snow flurries Mrs telcoman began a search for a new vehicle insisting that I go along to deal with automobile sales people. We began with a test drive of an Acura TSX at two dealers. We then visited four different Honda dealers test driving the Accord. After the first two Saturdays Mrs Telcoman felt confident enough to visit dealers alone during the week when for the most part she was the only customer in the showrooms. She visited Volvo, 4 different Altima dealers, three Lexus dealers all over the course of six weeks.
I received a gazillion emails and telephone calls from dealers all over central New Jersey. Acura was too expensive and they were not taking enough all list price. She likes Volvo but Consumer Reports indicated too many problems. She came close to the Honda Accord and actually put a deposit on a credit card over the phone and later cancelled when we found out the dealer was not including carpeted floor mats which are supposed to be included. She also found the drivers seat a bit uncomfortable in the Honda.
The Altima seat was much more comfortable for her.
She loved the comfort of the Lexus ES350 but it was over $9k more than the Altima. She came very close to saying yes to a Lexus without leather seats and navigation which was a little cheaper because she is not crazy about leather seats in the cold and hot weather anyway.
Lexus actually lost the sale over their refusal to throw in the XM radio in the deal.
One of the items I read about on the Altima forum was some difficulty with Bluetooth in the new Altima. Prior to signing the final purchase agreement we both tested and paired our cellphones. Hers a Motorola W460 and my Blackberry 8700C. Both paired and worked fine.It was ironic about floor mats & the Honda because after signing the sales agreement we noticed guess what.
No friggin floor mats in the Altima.
A long discussion took place with the salesman and manager. It is odd that a vehicle in the showroom has the floor mats in it and the Nissan brochure doesn't even mention them?
The sales manager offered them to us at his cost but couldn't tell us what his cost was? Parts was already closed. I would think that item would be something that they should all be familar with?
So I'll give Nissan an A instead of an A+ for the purchase experience.
In my opinion Nissan should not be pulling GM, Ford and Chrysler BS and scamming and nickel and diming a new car customer to pay extra for friggin floor mats particularly after springing for two convenience packages and the connection package as well as kickplates, and the emergency kit
Sorry for the long rant on my first Altima post.
