Hey guys,
I know this MR20DE is a new engine and most people say it's not tuner friendly but...
I would like to have a list of accurate details for this engine, nissan shows one thing, other websites other..

I am really not finding information about:
Airflow, intake / exhaust valve diameters, ports
official compression ratio
what about induction? stock flow cfm? type of manifold?
Stock cam details? Valve lift? lifter type? lifter acceleration rate?

Manual transmission details, gear ratios, rear drive ratio?

there are a lot of places that advertise the car as having variable valve timing, but it doesn't.

The other thing i was wondering is has anybody taken their MR20DE sentra's to the dyno? drag strip?
any time slips or charts would be greatly appreciated.

I'm looking for stock specs, but modded works as well :)

between nissan and a lot of google searches i could not find this information.
however there are other details that wikipedia covers well.

and sorry for this huge request, i just feel that i don't have access to the necessary resources
Thanks :dblthumb:

The MR20 does have a form of VVT on the intake cam. The engine is an open deck aluminum 4 cylinder that is made more for fuel conservation and no power...lol

Unless you want to dump a TON of money into the car, I'd advise against modifying this engine considering you would more than likely come out better just throwing an SR into the chassis to acheive the power output of an SR through the MR. Everything to do with the MR screams gas saver and anti horse power.

Let me get one thing straight though, I don't mean to lure you away but just take in my warning that to get the power you might be looking for, I would look else where. When working with open deck aluminum engines such as most Honda engines and a few Nissan engine's, you normally run into the engine needing sleeves and other things to handle power reliably.

Yeah i i'm in no way thinking of swapping the engine or making it perform like a tuned sr20.
the car was purchased to be an easy driver, but i just wished to find more information on it, like you said if i want this car to perform like a lambo i could either pay a to buy a lambo or pay someone who knows how to make this car into a lambo which would be insanely priced.

all i'm looking for is if you have a link or more information on the things i was missing please post it as a message or a link, that way it will become easier for me to undertand what can be done to the engine, weather someone is looking to save more gas or make it an even funner car to commute in.

I love understanding how things work, it's what i do for a profession working in IT, and having hobbies with cars and bikes etc.

anybody with a million bucks to spend on a sentra can make it fast..

If i want to go lighting fast.. i drive my bike.. if i want to feel the torque wheelies i would drive my firebird formula, do i like commuting in the bike sure, but not in winter, do i like to commute in the firebird yeah but not everyday much less in the winter as even light rain makes me adjust my driving style and idling in traffic can dehydrate my gas tank.

Thanks :)

That's just it, there are no link's to things that make that engine faster. You have to think that with the addition of CVT transmission's, not many people have pushed the envelope on them yet either. The MR is a new age engine that was made for one thing and one thing only, saving money. I wish I could help you more as I hate having stock cars but I don't want to miss lead you either.

I will tell you this...some newer Honda Civic's came with a CVT transmission, my friend just happened to get one. We put a cam, intake, headers, exhaust, cam gear, larger injectors, emanage ultimate, better mounts, and built the head on the little SOHC engine. It was suprisingly quick as s*** in gutted form and performed really well at auto x events as the Civic's CVT transmission has a sport mode and a regular driving mode. The RPM's ALWAYS stayed in the sweet spot and I wish I had numbers for it but we just butt tuned the car. The car outran a few stock turbo cars on the highway and some lightly modded ones.

He ended up totalling the car on the highway when he went to pass someone and the tires broke loose at 70mph...I s*** you not...that little car could spin the tires at almost any speed with the stock HX rim's on it.

That happens with most front wheel drives... Especially on stock width wheels. As far as sport mode, the juke has that, also.

Most of the answers you seek can be found in the Factory Service manual. I've already discussed gearing changes in the Versa forum, i.e. what can be swapped from what vehicle. They all use the basic renault TL-4 transmission with different ratios for the specific car.

The Versa's MR18 and the Sentra's MR20 (in the US) are almost identical and can be interchanged without much work. The MR16DDT in the Juke is similar, but has some unique features that the others don't. The MR20 is used all over Japan in different cars, and it's a common platform with the Renault MR4. I am still trying to research what people are doing with the Renault MR4 (if anything) in Europe.

BTW, member versaspeed (also runs versaspeed.com) is currently having an MR20 built up and we are working on a Rotrex supercharger kit for that MR20 in his Versa. We're shooting for 230 hp / 230 tq.

The engine can be modified, but it is pretty well designed from the factory (from what I hear out of the engine builder). Also, Jim Wolf Technology is debating on looking at the Versa / Sentra engines to play with in the future, from what I hear in the rumor mill. They just don't know what demand is out there right now.

Promise land have you had an opportunity to examine the differences yet?

Have a 2008 Sentra S that developed a problem with one of the pistons (or one of the rings). Looking to possibly swap in the MR16DDT. Ideally I'd like to just drop in the MR16DDT and plug in the corresponding ECU but am thinking it's not going to be quite so easy.

Any input?
