It's likely they'll be very similar, especially considering that they coexist (unlike, for instance, the VQ30 and VQ35 for the Maxima, which were subsequent and therefore had some major differences). I doubt it will be worth the trouble for a tiny 2 tenths of a liter, though. The MR is a new powerplant and will be expensive to get a hold of on it's own. Forced induction will likely be cheaper and easier to come by, not to mention easier to install.

Definitely an interesting idea, though.

On that subject, I'm curious as to what engine will come in the new Sentra SE-R (if there even is one...).

same here. i'm thinking they'll either produce a 2.5L motor for it or they'll just upgrade the 2.0L. headers, exhaust, better suspension with gram rims. they always did it that way. but if they did do it this way it'll most likely be a 6 speed.the ser's were never a disapointment to me.

Some would be interested in fitting the MR15, although the cost of buying another engine would surely surpass any fuel savings.

Depends on how different. Many people I know with old EA-81 or EA-82 powered Subarus make the effort to refit the EJ-22 from the first generation Legacy, since now the engines and associate parts are showing up in Pull-a-Part yards.

Any such MR swap would likely be at least 10 years down the road, when the first V's and Sentras start coexisting in junkyards.

Ten years down the road people will probably be swapping the MR18 with some sort of rotary engine or something crazy like they put 'vette engines in old 240z's.

Well, the Mazda rotary engines would certainly fit front to back. You wouldn't want to see where you'd end up having to put the transmission, though, because of how tall the output from the eccentric shaft is.

I think the phrase "in your cupholders" applies.

Somebody will make it happen, eventually.
