I have not watched yet the last movie with Jim Carey, but comedy or not, I'll hope there are not big mistakes like the one shown in his movie "Ace Ventura".

In his former movie, he is an animal rescuer who is involved in a case of a missing/stolen dolphin. He appears to use his "animal" instincts and human reasoning to find the right path and solve a crime.

As "animal" he uses his sense of smell and taste with explendid good results, and here lies the big mistake in this movie...having Ace Ventura using his very sensitive animal senses to record the environment around, how in the world he wasn't able to smell the police woman that kissed him and find out that "she was a dude"?

The smell of female sexual parts are different than of male, animals can rcognize such a smell from miles away...but Ace Ventura failed miserably to recognized it with a dude dressed as woman in a closed room...

Of course the movie is funny, but Ace Ventura...you failed man...you failed...

Are you seriously analyzing a Jim Carrey movie for accuracy? Really?

+1
Maybe ace wasn't tapping into his super animal abilities of smell when Finkel/Einhorn was on his nuts.

Besides, essentially every movie has holes in it... most are way bigger than your cooter smelling theory.

+10 Hard to believe you're actually analyzing the plot of a movie that contains a scene like this....

OP you need to quit smoking drugs. I mean I am seriously and morally offended by you saying that Ace sucked. WHAT!?!? Its a movie! Of course its not all real and accurate but damn those movies were hysterical and epic, those movies made Jim Carrey famous. Are you telling me you didnt laugh at the mechanical Rhino in the safari scene, or was it so unreal to believe that they didnt see or hear a bigass fake rhino or that he would really act like that coming out. I replayed that sooo many times. In fact I just played at the bottom of that post! Get real. Did you like Bruce Almighty or was it hard to believe in that you could really pull the moon close or that there's a black God? Im sorry but I HATE when people judge movies on reality and it really burns me deep. Its so stupid to do that and just annoying. I couldn't imagine being in the movies with you watching Xmen or Green Lantern to watch you throw your hands in the air claiming it would never happen.

THIS movie looks f'ing stupid. Speaking of Xmen, why is there a thread about this movie and not one about Xmen, which was a damn good, 10/10 movie?

I hated the movie "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" because everyone knows that YOU CANNOT F*CKING MIX CHOCOLATE BY WATERFALL. AS A MATTER OF FACT, IF IT WAS MADE OF CHOCOLATE YOU WOULDN'T F*CKING CALL IT A F*CKING WATERFALL IN THE FIRST F*CKING PLACE -- YOU'D CALL IT A F*CKING CHOCOLATE FALL.

Plus geese don't get that big.

No Xmen movie talking?...hmmmm perhaps because mutations never work that way...when you acquire a new characteristic you lose at least another one...lets say, a bacterium which used to eat the sugars of your body started to eat the cells of your immune system right after a bad treatment of antibiotics...yes, the bacterium has suffer a mutation and now is very dangerous for you because eats your immune system cells...but guess what...now can't eat the sugars of your body anymore :chuckle:

So, XMen movies are great science fiction but as far as nature works, such kind of mutations of acquiring certain characteristics without losing other ones is not possible. A better XMen movie should be that the dude can grown nails from the upper side of the wrist but was born with atrophied feet...or a girl who can pass thru the walls but her vision and hearing are lost from birth...

Mutations are mostly negative because the species lose more than gain...there is not such thing as "winning characteristics alone" with mutations, to say or think such a scenario is as fake as an eigh dollars bill...with mutations you lose, or you lose and gain...but there are no records at all of a winning winning situation...unless somebody is lying to you...or is one of those evolution fanatics spreading nonsenses around...

I laugh a lot with Jim Carrey movies, like Liar Liar when he tried to hurt himself in the bathroom to avoid continuing defending a divorce case, but the part of trying to catch the airplane to reach his ex-wife and son...well, a similar scenario with a guy outside reaching a moving airplane is more more funny in the movie A fish Called Wanda.

That God is black, you don't need to find it out in a comedy movie, because it is a fact...just review the news about the DC Sniper case, and you will see that the older black guy when he talked with the DC police chief, he said, "Call me God".

The news in the movie Bruce Almighty were also inacurate, because the Moon also pulls dryland besides water. So, besides of huge waves in the ocean, a closer Moon to earth must cause the birth of hills...right now the Moon, at its regular distance from us, pulls dryland about 6 inches upwards in its path orbiting around our planet.

This is why all Hollywood movies -without exception- are no more than entertainment, nothing close to what physical reality is...just entertainment, neither The Passion "saves" itself of this -lets called it- rule...

But, still is a crime that when you show in the movie a dude with a super sensitive sense of smell, perhaps greater than the one own by my beagle dog, but that this dude can't perceive that the woman who is kissing him is another dude...come on... Al Pacino did it better in Scent of a Woman... :naughty:

Im not even ganna argue... I think your just f***in with me now.

You know now that you mention it, it would have a better twist if someone had super powers but lost another crucial sense. I liked the girl walking thru a wall but deaf and/or blind. But at the same time that doesnt make it fun and entertaining. She would still be useless if she cant see where shes going or hear people coming, so whats the advantage of the power?

Mutations can have some advantages for certain species. An example are the Snakeheads that fill the Potomic here. They are fish that can walk on land and breathe out of water. And, we wouldnt be here if the first sea animals didnt mutate the same way hundreds of millions of years ago. Although most are disadvantages like the fish on the Simpsons with 3 eyes, or the kid I saw in India with like 4 legs and 4 arms ( ). But there's something called 'adapting to the environment' that goes with that.

Now I know your smoking either really good or really bad drugs. the Moon pulls land upward ?? I'm pretty sure that's where tectonic plates come in. I dont think the moons gravity has nowhere near enough force to pull rock, even over millions of years. It only effects tides because, well, its water and water moved very easily. Maybe when the Moon was first formed I could believe that.

Ok thats all. Im even not ganna get into Hollywood and entertainment.

I lied, I actually did read. Assuming the statement that any gain would be offset by a loss is true (I'm fairly certain its not, but its been a while since I studied biology, so I'll go along with the assumption for now), it doesn't mean that it would be an important trait that was "lost". Perhaps the ability to fly might be offset by the inability to roll the tongue. Maybe shapeshifting powers are offset by the fact that your natural color is blue, but who cares? You're a shapeshifter. Your mistake is that you are assigning positive and negative by gain and loss. Ultimately, its a GD comic book movie, why the hell have I wasted this time writing this response?

right, I'm about to punch a whole in the drywall just thinking about why Im arguing about a stupid topic.

Speaking of xmen and THOSE WHO ENJOYED IT, the girl that played Mystic was sooooooo hot. She had those luscious lips that looked so kissable, with those chubby cheeks and phatass body that looked so thick and juicy I almost squeezed one off in the theater just sitting there. So, so, so disgustingly sexy.

Well, because changes are not "neutral", suh kind of changes won't exist at all, unless someone is really smoking good stuff. Then, changes must be positive or negative to the species, or you can call them "favourable" or "unfavourable",but surely never neutral...in other words: never "no change".

About losing and gaining, this is like information storaged in a computer, when some short circuit or something inside or outside the computer is affecting its functional work, the computer will automatically shut down a certain program or function, it won't be lost completely but it won't work. But at the same time, the short circuit may affect the electronics that control the screen and make the power to be stronger going to the lamp and be more shinning than ever.

So, this is why you see the T-Rex with so big teeth and strong legs but with atrophied hands, and such kind of atrophied hands are described as "birth defect" in several books of medicine when is observed in humans, so there is no difference with the dino species and humans about this abnormality/anomaly/disorder, and we may conclude that by some cause -contaminated water or similar- the T-rex is a birth defect specimen.

Now well, "defect" guides to negative, unfavourable, etc.

For this reason, XMen movies are great fiction, but we cannot even assume that such a scenario of gaining physical powers without losing other physical charateristics may be possible in life....because as far as observations have been made,or experimetation applied, and whatever, you win and lose characteristics and at large the species will suffer greater degeneration than gain.

Of course, as Hollywood movies are based not only in comic books but also is based in popular beliefs -like the theory of evolution- no wonder why people and actors love this kind of fantasy, because gives some kind of hope for something "better" for the human species...

The sad side is that while the dream is a human species gaining "powers", right now more and more children need to wear braces because are born with deformed teeth... :chuckle:

You are correct, there is no fun if the girl has some super powers but can't see...this is why Hollywood movies are "entertainment" only. Still, come on, it should be funnier if Ace Ventura smells her and avoid her kissing because she was a dude but he -for some reason- can't expose her... and no one can figure out why he rejects her until the end...

So far, the snakehead fish may have the same characteristics since its apparition on earth, the fossil record cannot support or deny that this fish was capable to breath on air long ago, so you can't call it an advantage in the current species because you can't demostrate that this fish wasn't able to do the same in the past.

LIfe may appeared from ponds, perhaps from the ocean, so we can't lean on any theory because can't be proved. About those "millions of years", such amount of years can't be verified as well. Let me explain: you use Carbono 14 to date the age of a tree branch and this method says that the tree is 2,800 years old.

You must verify this method by using another method that must be completely different. So, you cut the tree -which the branch belongs to- and count the internal rings, and you have the result of 2,713 rings. Congratulations!!! You have verified the Carbono 14 method as reliable, as trusted, as a method that can be used to measure the age of other tree branches, etc...

Now, you say that the earth is such and such billions years old, and for this statement you say you use another radiometric method which gives such an age. Unfortunately you have not provided another method, completely different to be used against your radiometric method, so the results of both methods can be compared to verify the accuracy. Then, your methgod is not verifiable and by consequence you can't trust, you can't lean on it...the only thing you can say is that "you believe that the earth is such and such billions years old because apparently such is what your radiometric method says...but that you can'y affirm and confirm such a data because the method used simply is not verifiable.

The same applies to the 65 millon years for dino exinction, etc, etc...all those given ages are no more than assumptions.

About the Moon pulling dryland...yes indeed, you better surf the web, and you will find it out, and as true as tectonics plates do exist, the pulling of dryland by the Moon also happens.

Well, all of this writing because the dumb Ace Ventura wasn't capable to smell a dude hidden inside a woman dress... bad Ventura...

My regards.

Ahh man, killing me here!

First, a fish that filters oxygen thru gills, then has the abilty to land in who knows how long of time, is an advantage. That retarded fish bangs another fish of the same species and has 1000's of kids with the same possible 'disorder'. Then when all the kids grow, they bang other hot fish etc, etc..

This part reminds me of this lol

2nd. Carbon dating is only good for a few 1000 years since the halflife is fairly short. Scientists also use Potassium 40 (I think) and Uranium 238 because they are very stable atoms and the HL lasts for millions of years for K, and billions for U. This is how they tell how old the Earth is. When U is born from a dying star, that U is in the Earth and decaying slowly. Using the HL formula, alittle math, and known HL values, you can accuratly decifer the age of the Earth. This is also how they determine 65 million years. If every prehistoric dinasaur's fossils and other plants and creatures are found with no death younger than ~65 mil years, gee that tells me something important. Granted its not accurate to the exact day, month, or year, its a good and very precise estimate. This is also what geologists use in studying the atmosphere in ice cores. It also occurs in rock that is clearly marked in layers like the Grand Canyon.

Its a fact that this IS reliable in dating very old things. Science doesnt lie and there is no assuming involved in this. Its a proven fact by more than 1 way.

Here's a cool little game that one of my professors assigned for homework. Click 'Run Now' -> Dating Game tab

Now on to the real issue. You said it yourself "FANTASY". Have you never thought about what super power you would have?? After watching that movie I was trippin. That movie made me wish so bad that I could fire energy from my hand (dont even start on that..) Notice the avatar? Yes, a Super powerful Legendary Super Sayian bi***es and he would have killed Goku if it wasnt for Vegeta and that stupid death by a punch. I wish I could be like him. Anyways.. thats the point of Hollywood and other film makers is to give us and explore our imagination wether its Xmen, James and the Giant Peach, or Independence Day. I mean really, what would happen if (when) the Earth was to be invaded by aliens? What would happen if a group of people survived a raioactive explosion that gave them powers? Think outside the box and dont take eveything so literal. Dont be afraid to explore someting besides news and documentaries. How about some Ima-gina-tion for ya.

Sigh*

Apparently you didn't understand what I said, perhaps I need to tell you to calm down and read before answering.

I said that you can't prove that such a fish has acquired the new characteristics later on, and that the fish may appeared on earth with those characeristics of breathing in water and air already from the very beginning...like the duck billed platypus which has the characteristic of having a bird duck from the very beginning according to biological sources... Understood?

Now well, only the Carbon 14 method has been verified with a different method used against it, and the result data was similar from both methods. About the rest of radiometric methods, yes, they can give you millions of years of age data for earth, rocks, etc...but no one of those radiometric methods has been verified using another method agaisnt them, so their data is only an assumption.

If you want to trust those other radiometric methods wirthout proving their veracity, that is your problem, but in science, we are talking of "real science", you must prove that the results of one scientific method can be verified with another different method, and in case you can't do this, then your results are just speculations, nothing solid...nothing verifiable.

Who cares if geologists fell in that game of millions of years here and there? Such is their fantasy when they believe that their data is accurate when in reality their data can't be verified at all. Just because they want to overcome religion they will accept anything that discards the thousands of years life on earth. I'm skeptic about their babbling, because I'm a book man on this, and science demands evidence, and without verification through a different method, those other radiometric results still are and will be only conjetures forever. If you want to backup your position about radiometric data, bring here a different method used to verify it...only this way you are talking about science...otherwise you are just the others, speculating and spreading your imaginations around.

Lets go to movies again. Yes, the job of Hollywood is not to teach science but to bring entertainment. Sadly, people can't understand it that way. I remember in a forum of science when a dude came very excited that such a thing of time traveling shown in the new "The World of Apes" movie may be possible...

See? the scenario is worst when lots of young guys watch a movie like "Black Hawk Down" and listen and believe the crap words told at the end of the film...surely they will dream to be war heroes...and in the real war they will find out that the enemy enjoys indeed good aim and after returning back home without legs for life, they will find out years later that they were just complete idiots... :chuckle:

Imagination is great, but people must learn to differenciate between knowledge and imagination, and in this that dude Einstein was dead wrong. because surely knowledge is more important than imagination...otherwise, instead of teaching the current subjects in school, replace the school curriculum with the South Park video you have posted above...and everybody happy...right?

I love movies, I just watched Hangover part 2 last week, funny as hell...but please don't take me wrong, I know what fantasy is and what reality is, and I can assure you that from Hollywood only fantasies are given.

Best wishes.

it's called evolution. what you're proposing is that one day, every species of animal just appeared just like they are. it didn't go down that way.

ummm what? iirc, didn't the soldiers go on to say that they weren't heroes? that film didn't make me yearn for war glory, it showed me that war sucks and is scary as hell.

If Einstein hadn't imagined what his train would be like traveling at the speed of light, then his theories would never have come to fruition. Knowledge only comes about though imagination. :slap:

(Also, his theories are not laws, they needed to be modified a bit by others later on...)

it's called evolution. what you're proposing is that one day, every species of animal just appeared just like they are. it didn't go down that way.
Bad news for your proposal, because there is not a single evidence of micro-organisms becoming macro-organisms through any process, so until you have such a step by step evidence, you must start with what you have, and you have nothing but species which populated earth in the past and that they appeared somehow, no one knows how. In base of what we have, this is to say, no knowledge of how they appeared on earth because no records of any kind are available, we must be honest and say that they lived, appeared, populated earth on past eras, no method implied because there is none with backing up evidence to validate it.

For you, without any evidence, to call "evolution" to the unknown phenomena that caused the apparition of macro-organisms on earth, is completely infantile.

The film started saying that the film was based in current events, this can be taken as if the figh encounters really happened, when was only based or inspired in such a war situation in that country. The last words and actions were focusing as a "duty" to fight overseas, a compromise with humanity or something like that...in reality, each country has its own problems and other countries must respect that. For example, while in Europe and almost all around Central and South America, discrimination against black people was almost nothing, in US -after almost 200 years- this discrimination was finally officially over. 200 years to end such a discrimination. Now think about it...whould you like other countries to have invaded US and put the country under foreign control in the 30's, 40's, 50's, and 60's in order to force the government to end racism? I bet you won't like it. Why then the US government believes to be walking over waters when it is so corrupt as any other government of the world? I still think that this kind of films need to have the words: "For entertainment only", so the viewers won't fall in the trick that invading or participating in other countries war is a "duty".

Well, your thoughts are incorrect again. Time is not physically existent, by consequence can't dilate, so the total theory of relativity is a fake. For your information, rtime is no more than a measure, a data obtained when you compare a regular motion -the rotation of earth, the vibration frequency of the atom of Caesium- with the motion or changes of other things. Such is time, a concept only, never a physical entity.

Besides, the validation of relativity was made with fraud, there are records showing Eddington making make ups to the films taken from the eclipse in order to make relativity valid at all cost. According to records, no one but Eddington approved the validity of relativity after the eclipse. After a few years this theory was imposed, not so shared by other scientists. Even more, years later people were asking to give a nobel prize to Einstein for such a theory, and Nordenson, a member of the Swedish Academy, said," I have often met persons, who have expressed their astonishment that Einstein was not awarded the Nobel Prize for his Theory of Relativity, which many people consider one of the most outstanding achievements of this centrury...as a member of the Swedish Academy of Science which distributes the Nobel Prizes of physics I am on the other hand very glad that this was not done, since the Theory of Relativity is not physics but philosophy and in my opinion poor philosophy."

See? Relativity is not even science but mere philosophy. That some fanatics still spreading this theory as scientifically valid, such is because there is no way to suit them in court, because such is their "belief". But, surely a parent can suit a school or university demanding that the teaching of relativity must go to philosophy and not so science. This action will cause the relativists to come out of their caves and face reality, that their theory is a fake, because surely in court they won't be able to prove that time dilates, and that the one that suffers changes in the experiments is the clock and/or the particles, but never time, because time doesn't exist physically.

If you think the contrary, it is very easy to prove me wrong, just bring here the hundreds of web links showing that time has been proved to exist physically. The web must be full of sites showing the methods used for such a task, plus the name od the scientists, the date of such a experiment and results, etc... So please, feel free to post at least one web link showing that time does exist physically, with the correspondent solid evidence. :chuckle:

In movies, you always will hear the name of Einsten as a genius, of course, as I said before, from Hiollywood you will obtain "fantasies only". I have records of Einstein showing that he indeed tried to participate in the Manhattan project, but guess what, he was asked to provide some formulas, and he did it, but whatever he presented was so lunatic, that very nicely he was kicked out of the project. After this event, his followers invented the story that he didn't participate in the Manhattan project because he was a pacifist... :rotfl

The letters between war headquarters showing how Einstein was kicked out still in existence, so if you want to believe that such a dude was a genius, I can't do anything but telling you that the whole thing is a fake.

Damn Ace Ventura, you should were capable to perceive that the woman who kissed you in the movie was a dude, look how far we are discussing here about evolution and relativity... next Ace Ventura movie I will buy nose drops to clear up his sense of smell...
