Well, just wanted to know the MPG that you guys get with the SR20det and what setup you are running to get these numbers. I was searching and one guy said he was getting 400miles out of a tank. I on the other hand am only getting 200-280 if I am lucky, and 280 was the highest I have gotten out of a tank and I was driving extremely conservative (which sucks!). I put Premium in it, which is 93octane around here. I am running stock boost, stock fuel pump, stock SMIC, K&N intake, Greddy(trust) downpipe, 3" high flow cat, custom 3" piping back to a 3" borla exhaust. What the hell, seeing I usually fill up around 13 gallons, divide that into 200 and that is only 15mpg. I would like to get at least 20mpg, anything that could be wrong? Or is this normal? What happens if you don't put High Grade fuel in the SR20det??? Anyone run it on regular? Thanks for all the input in advanced.

I think you are running too rich. There are many factors that cause your engine to run rich.

Make sure all the sensor contacts are clean so that your ECU can read the sensors quicker and more effectively. Check your spark plugs, its GAP. Is your EGR still on the car? Have you replaced your O2 sensor?

A bad thermostat can possibly cause yuor engine to run rich. because if your thermostat is stuck, your engine will run hotter, thus, the engine will supply more fuel to cool down the combustion.

Check your timing and make sure it is within spec.

There are lots of factors, but these are the ones off my head.

Yeah, when I try to stay out of boost I usually get about 320 miles to a tank. I can easily get as low as 280 though. Also DO NOT run cheap gas in that engine!!!! If you can't afford an extra $1.50 per fill up then you shouldn't have an SR!! Think about it.....it is prolly at most 10cents more for premium aand at 12 gallons that is only 1.20 more.....:rolleyes

My setup is pretty identical to yours, I get about 27 mpg. I fill up at about 7 gallons and have usually driven about 180 miles. The S13 tank can hold about 16 gallons of gas, the S14 tank holds 17.2 gallons. Only thing I dont have that you guys are probably running is the TPS, its disconnected on my car. Also im running ECU #63 which is an AUTO ECU, but I doubt that would make a difference.

How can you tell your car is running rich? I always thought you could almost smell it. I have had a computer hooked up to my car and a mechanic checked everything, everything seemed to be fine. After I had the a upgraded head gasket, valve springs, and RAS installed, I never did get the timing done though. But the car idles and runs perfect, how can you tell if the timing is off? Thanks for the info...
