I'm not real sure what 240s are supposed to get, but sounds a little low. I think you should be pretty close to 20 in the city.

I get 400 km off of 50 liters of gas in the city up hear in canada thats about 8 km per litre so if you want to convert it over for me that would be great I think its around 20-23 MPG

12 is well below normal. 20 is about right for the city and 25 is closer to norm for the freeway for a 240 that is in fairly good tune. I would check the norms.air filter, plugs, exhaust blockage, loose connection on any connectors(tps, water temp, and o2 are suspect. Also plug wires. However there is one other possibility. I, along with others have noticed that the motor that drives the odometer skips which causes a under measurement of the miles traveled. Mine actually almost nevwer moves now, but it's hard to detect because you have to stare at the odometer and see if it catches or measure it by those freeway signs.Bryce

Bryce, did you ever get the specs? Your numbers sound better then everyone elses. My big arse heavy J30 gets an average of 20mpg, and if ya'lls little 240's are getting less then that...there's something wrong.

his numbers are low too. i used to get close to 30 miles to the gallon. if i didn't drive like i was qualifying for nascar, i could get around 340 miles out of a full tank.

the most i ever got out of a tank was 320. and the most i have ever feld it was 16gal. with normal driving (getting on it ever so often) i would get around 15-17, the lowest i ever got was about 10, and the highest was 19 (and it wasnt freeway). i personaly think i had some sort of injector leak, alog with 130k miles on it. I also have the problem with the trip/odometer stoping, so its hard to always keep track. so i could really be getting lots better then i am.

I've gotten anywhere from 16-21 mpg. That's lots of stop and go driving and a heavy right foot. I've replaced plugs and filters since I got the car, so it's been slowly going up. I'd imagine it'd be close to 30 mpg on the highway if I maintain a good steady speed.

i have a 91se hb with 172xxx on the odometer, auto trans, subs, full size spare and a small tool kit in it. i get 300 miles on 11-13 gallons of gas, depending on how heavy my right foot is, but 90% of that is interstate. i have replaced all the pertinent items, plugs, wires, filters and have not seen a signigicant change in my mileage in the ten months i have had the car, and i set the trip odometer every tank.give your car a tuneup, it should help

I have put over 15 in my car before (93 H/B SE, with a heavy POS stereo in the *** end) I have gotten very near 25/26 on the interestate on several trips between Central TN and Southern AL. Around town i get anywhere from about 16-20. I think it's pretty decent. Most of this is on premium gas (93) and I do notice a decrease in MPG if I use cheap gas or go to a crappy gas station (Dirty tanks?)

The capacities and specifications FAQ on 240sx.org has fuel tank capacity as 15 7/8 gallons. If you have the tank and the filler tube full, it could reach 16.

Yep, keep your car in tune and drive smoothly for your best MPG...Heck, I would get better MPG if we didn't have so much SNOW! Spinning way too much...Come on Spring! ;)

I usually get close to 30 mpg. The best i've gotten is 32.2 or something, and i don't think I've gotten any worse than 24 or so. But I do mostly high way miles.

Damn some of you are low... I drive an automatic and used to average 27-28, well after my electric fan swap that is, and prior to that about 24 - 25... Im back down to that. I accredit that to me upping the ground connection and being a tool not crimping the wires good, and possibly since its been 30k since my transmission fluid change, vs 25k with mobil 1 synth atf like I always do.

I fixed the cables so we'll see about that...

I always do a mix of city / highway, with slightly more highway (avg 80 - 85 mph), but city I drive around in 3rd gear mostly, sustain long periods oin 2nd sometimes, and constantly accelerate heavilly and downshift. So it evens it out, I figure...

Oh and according to the fsm the fuel tank in an s14 is 17 1/8 gal. Most Ive ever run her was to about 13.5, as I try not to run her dry. I dont think anyone could ever see a 16 - 17 gal fill up due to the layout of the tank though.

I get between 15 and 20 mpg. Rarely as high as 20 mpg. Damn the T04 and 370 injectors. haha.

Yeah 16gallons is what my 89 FSM is saying. Try doing a full tuneup. Before I was getting some really bad mileage about 12mpg highway but after a full tuneup (timing, air filter, spark plugs, ignition wires, distributor cap/rotor, fuel filter, o2 sensor) I'm getting close to about 30 on the highway now. From what I heard, the o2 sensor is very important for your mileage and I suspect that was what was really bogging me down before. Needless to say the previous owner of my car didn't take good care of her...

I got a similar question.. My car has suddenyl stared gettin' *** gas mileage.. Suggestions, i haven't changed a damn thing and actually reduced the weight of the car by about 200 lbs or so.. Also, it runs rich as hell.. You practically get the same effect walking through my exhaust on a cold morning as you would by sucking the hose on a gas pump.. Anyway to adjust that?

btw for everyone who asked i know my figures are a lil low i assumed aggressive driving and only decnt tune. i know we should get 25 plu but i never have, due partly to my driving habits(not good). My main point was make sure your odometers are working properly and check tune. I get 0 miles to the gallon because my odometer completely stopped, so i will be fixing that and tuning it up in hopes of getting closer to 30 with the horrible gas prices. I don't think anything much under 25 is worrysome but under 20 is cause for concernbryce

So is the O2 sensor one of the most important things? I know my exhause smells a little rich too and would like to fix that, so can someone verify?

thanks...

I'm gettin 14mpg in my 90 240sx, I've changed ,fuel injectors, fuel filter, o2 sensor. still no luck.

my old o2 sensor was coated black from running rich, what would running rich hurt besides the o2 sensor?

I have decided it must be my O2 sensor.. Its running rich as hell, my MPG is down the tubes and thats the only thing I can figure.. It's had a recent complete tune up and I'm just gettin' annoyed.. Buying o2 sensor.. Its just the one right?
