Is there a difference in the mpg of using the CVT manual mode vs the regular auto mode? If so, how big is the difference?

Chances are there isn't a difference. Because at least for me, I only switch to Manual CVT when i want to race it up a bit which uses more gas I don't think anyone would drive it in the "CVT manual" mode more than 50% of the time. Then you would prolly get a real manual transmission already

i wish i would have gotten manual as i like the manual mode on my car and i use it at least 90% of the time. just yesterday i actually had it on the normal automatic mode and i was pulling away from a red light and pushed the shifter forward into N thinking i was in manual as usual. i felt like a douche as my car just reved in the intersection and i went no where

Did your left foot press the 'air' as though it were a clutch?

I actually did some brief research prior to purchasing my CVT Coupe... everything I read said that the CVT is more efficient than a regular automatic...but I could never find any actual numbers... maybe I need to dig deeper. Just my two cents.

And my old car had the shifty thingy and I used it all the time...and when I didn't I would forget and push it into neutral too... But I don't use the sport shift on my Coupe as much...no need to since in essence there are "no gears"...

I know exactly how you feel. I've noticed though, with light pedal effort (maybe 15-20% throttle), the car seems to pick up much better in manual mode then letting the CVT do its own thing. Seems that the instant MPG meter shows less economy that way.

I would think the CVT would be better on fuel around town because the CVT keeps the ratio as close to 1500 engine RPM as possible (easy driving), which really harnesses the engines largest torque area.
