Is it possible to swap the gas/temp/mpg computer from a sl to a s model? If so would it need to be programed for the correct odometer reading?

Mileage for odometer will be different. I swapped mine because I'm soldering new leds in my old one for red ones. My "new" odometer shows 11000 miles while my old one showed 39000 miles. For computer I know for sure you will need a temperature sensor that goes behind the front bumper and I'm not sure about the rest.

Technically this would also be considered odometer tampering which will be a problem when it comes to servicing the vehicle, etc. I am no legal expert, but some quick research revealed odometer tampering is a felony in many states. However, there are provisions for 'odometer replacement/repair' where the owner, dealer, etc replaced the odometer and did not intend to defraud.

Ideally the odometer needs to be reprogrammed or 'certified' to avoid any issues. IMHO, I would contact a Nissan dealer, odometer service/repair facility (there are some on the net), or a garage to see if they provide this 'service' and what is required.

Did you add a sl meter to a s model, and if so did the mpg function work? If I do this I will check with the dealer to get it programmed as my Rogue is a 2010 with only 1900 miles. I want the miles to stay true.

To answer the first question:

The fuel consumption calculations are done inside the trip computer/odometer so in theory, simply swapping with one that does should work. Leo2005 is the first one to try this mod, so we'll see if it works.

Many have reported on this forum how slow the fuel consumption calculations update and how inaccurate it is... 1-3 mpg when compared to the manual calculation method. If you really want to track real time fuel economy (ie. for hypermiling) I would invest in a Scangauge II. There is a short post about a Rogue owner who purchased and installed one:

It's a really neat device and gives you alot more information than the trip computer ever could. It also doubles as a scan tool for vehicle diagnostics.

Thanks for the reply. I am aware of the scangauge, ecometer, kiwi and other mpg cmputers. I would prefer to keep the clean stock look of the inside on my Rogue. I am loving it btw. I have been checking the milage the old fashion way and so for it has been,

20MPG No highway -mixxed country roads and city20MPG No highway -mixxed country roads and city24MPG 1/2 highway 1/2-mixxed country roads and city21MPG No highway -mixxed country roads and city24MPG No highway -mixxed country roads and city

I was a bit dissapointed with the mileage at first but this last tank has been more like what I was expecting. I drive normal speeds but try to take it easy on the gas pedal and limit acceleration to help the mpg. The car is shared with my wife who just drives it normally.

I'm sorry for confusion but my "new" odometer is exactly the same as old one so I can not say anything about computer with mpg or outside temperature. When eman said odometer from s and sl then there's no difference. Odometer with computer comes only for premium pckg. which is available even for s models from 2009 and up.

The Premium Package is only available for SL models, regardless of year. The 'S' model never had any option packages save for the 360° Model in 2009.

Regarding the trip computer:

For 2008, the trip computer was part of the premium package on SL models only.

In 2009, the trip computer was made standard for SL models in the USA. In Canada, it's still part of the SL premium package.

You can read more about the model differences between years here:
