I just finished reading a thread from back in 2008 about MPG on the 4th Gens. Back then the cars would have been brand new with low mileage. Today those cars would be between 4 and 9 years old and the oldest of the generation are likely high mileage. Lets post what we the faithful 4th gen owners are getting today. I am stealing part of the format from the old post to make it easy to understand and adding a couple of other info points.

YEAR: 2008

STYLE: SEDAN

TRIM: 2.5S

TRANSMISSION: Automatic Replaced under extended warranty about 6 months ago.

MILEAGE: 117301 as of this afternoon when I filled up

FUEL TYPE' Regular at Sam's. (Yeah, I am a cheapskate and besides that I have found that the 2.5 doesn't benefit from high octane gas anyway.)

MPG: 23.98

MODS: None. 100% stock

DRIVING STYLE: I usually drive rather conservatively. However, I will admit to periodically enjoying making the young college kids (I am 38) driving their "souped up ricers" and the occasional 5.0 Mustang look absolutely stupid because they don't know how to handle the power. :ohsnap :runover: Most of my driving consists of a 26 mile (one-way) highway commute combined with a few miles of city driving to get to the shop and home once off the freeway. I recently ran a bottle of Lucas fuel system cleaner with a tank of gas and my MPG went up by about 2.5 MPG or so. Who'd a thunk it would actually do any good. I am also about 800 miles from an oil change and run full synthetic and change plugs once a year. I know you guys are shaking your heads and thinking :wtf2: but I figure if $50 dollars a year for a good set of plugs helps to take care of the motor it's worth the money. On a side note, I can drive from Raleigh, NC where I live to Jacksonville, FL on just over 3/4 tank. That is with an average highway speed of 80 or so.

YEAR: 2012

STYLE: SEDAN

TRIM: 2.5S

TRANSMISSION: CVT

MILEAGE: 71342 as of last night

FUEL TYPE: one of the cheaper 87 octane in town. Discovered to give the best fuel economy on 2 past vehicles.

MPG: around 22.0-22.6 (changes whenever I take long trips, but most driving is city). This number has been calculating for a long time, maybe close to 5000 miles, so rapid changes in fuel economy aren't really considered.

MODS: None. 100% stock

DRIVING STYLE: I use this vehicle to deliver pizzas on the weekends, so I'm pretty aggressive, but my wife drives it around town all week and she's super conservative. I'd say from 1-10 (grandma to racecar), it gets a solid 5 averaged over its miles

In response to the poll, I'd actually rather ditch the 4th gen and get the newer facelifted 5th gen 3.5

2010 Altima 2.5SL. Original CVT. Moderate driving style- I keep up with traffic but no jack rabbit starts or 'hypermilling' (max mpg techniques).
I keep all mileage logs (for business), and these figures are actual gallons used and miles travels over many fillups.
26-28mpg city/suburban (obviously less if only short trips- any car gets worse mpg while warming up).
33-35mpg highway ~70-75mph.

That's kind of how I felt until my o8 altima was in the shop for an oil change and I decided to drive the new Maxima for s*** and giggles. OMG! What a nice car. Big but still quite sporty. I must admit however that I wouldn't turn my nose up at a new Altima if someone handed me the keys (with no payment.)

Given my druthers I'd have a new fully loaded Maxima as a daily driver and turn the Altima into a toy. I never really had a car to tinker with in highschool so I am kind of doing that now at 38 years old.

To each his own though. I don't knock your opinion.
