Mine sits perfectly if I lay it sideways with my phone in the storage next to the cup holders....I only really have access to the FF>> button(or part of the dial) so I can easily skip songs when I have it on shuffle....All the guys at work that listen to Ipods in the car agree, trying to navigate your ipod while driving is more dangerous than talking on a cel phone or texting.....If you try, you'll realize it will only be a matter of time before your in an accident, or cause one...also if your just getting an ipod you'll have to rip your CDs to mp3 format for the ipod. ....Be aware!! Itunes default setting for ripping is AAC(.m4a extension) which is great if you only want to play your songs on an ipod or PC...but I strongly recommend changing this default setting to mp3@192 quality in case you want to play your compressed files on another device...just about everyone has a CD, or DVD player that plays mp3 files...
