I just received my new 2006 Infiniti M35x (journey and tech packages). Only have about 100 miles on it so far...taking a while to read the owners manual.I have already encountered a problem...Hope someone can help.

I have burned an MP3 CD to play in the 6 disc changer...It will not play. This disc will however play in every other MP3 CD player I have. Does my MX have a problem or does it need some secret format to play?

You have to use burning software that is able to burn a MP3 audio disc; simply putting the MP3 files on a CD-ROm I dont think works; its beena while since I have done one, but I htink I recall using a MP3 Disc template or something when I did mine;

I just checked the settings, and there was in fact a "MP3 Disc" setting, then you drag the MP3 files into the burning app, and it works fine;

As for it playing in other MP3 players, that puzzels me; Unless you are somehow using a DVD-R, as the Infiniti will not read DVD in the Changer, and the DVD reader doesnt play MP3 discs;

btw; the owners manual has some spcs on the bit rate and stuff that you need to be within for the player to playback the MP3 Disc, this si worth checking if your bit rates are high or low, it will not play

Mine play just fine. I used the RecordNow CD/DVD burning software on my PC. I have the option of burning either as an Audio or Data disc. I used the data option b/c it allows me to get much more on 1 cd (about 160). I've also used the CD burning capabilities with Windows Media Player.

Well, I think my CD player must be the problem. I have burned MP3 discs using Window Media Player and Nero. Set both to burn data disks with MP3 suffix...no go. These discs will play on any other MP3 player I have.What brand CDR discs are you using?Mikey

An MP3 Related question - Can you put the MP3 files into folders on the CD-R, such as Rock, Pop, etc. or do they have to be out of folders to play on the M?

burn a compliant mp3 disc and yes you can use folders;read the manual, it talks about the navigation of these folders;

mp3 disc is not as easy as putting mp3 files on a cd; use compliant burning software!tk

Affirmative! All my CDs are burned with MP3s. I simply take folders from my Muzak file and drag them into Sonic RecordNow on Data setting. Depending on compression, about 75 to 125 songs per disc. At 2 cents a disc I make one for the evening and toss it when i'm done...lol. With about 10,000 songs and growing I never get bored. Its way kool having a 600 song library in the dash and a DVD-Audio disc in the DVD for special listening

I have a 2006 M35x which I just purchased. I noticed that when playing CD the song information is not displayed? Is this a setting on the entertainment system or is there a s/w upgrade to allow this? I find it incredible this isn't a standard display. Just about EVERY CD had this information encoded on it.

Is it a standard audio CD? I.e., conforms to red book standard?

If so, there is no track info on that CD. Computer audio players use the track length information to try and match it up with central databases ...

If it is not just a simple audio CD, then I do not know the answer to your question. I think it might be worth searching here at NICO to see if someone has posted about this before.

Ah, a standard commercial audio CD then! These do not have song information on them, and cannot be displayed in the car (or on any standard CD player, for that matter).

If you play these CD's on a network-connected PC (using Windows Media Player for example), then some players use the track lengths and number of tracks to "look it up" in centralized databases - the match is not always perfect - to display the song names.

thanks for much for that info. i thought for sure it was encoded on the CD but, my theory came from the PC which, as you point out, is usually referencing something like CDDB. Duh!!

GOOGLE CD-TEXT,You will find that CD-TEXT is Not really all that standard, but some players read, understand and display it:here is one quick link I found, that explains it;

http://www.cdrfaq.org/faq03.html#S3-28

I've burned CD-TEXT compliant CDs, and seen them work in other aftermarket players, and I have not had them display in the M car system.

Very good info, Tim!

Unfortunately, it appears that most commercial audio CD's sold today do not use the CD-TEXT standard to encode the song info on the disk. They tend to be more generic red book standards, as far as I can tell!

I will have to explore this option further though ... to see if I can copy some of my current audio CD's and make CD-TEXT compliant CD's out of them and see what happens in my M45 (the 2003 that I have) CD player.

Thanks again!

Have the same problem. Created MP3 CD (242 folders, 180 files, 648 MB). Plays fine on my wife's Lexus. Refuses to play on my M35x - get no audio file error. All recording specs meet the manual.Recorded using Windows drag & drop.Did record a 1 folder mp3 cd with 126 files which plays fine on the M35x so the player works with mp3 files - just not this one. May try cutting down number of folders but manual says 255 is the limit. Blah!

Just an update. Cut back the number of folders to about half and the cd played just fine in the M. Could be there is a limit (lower than what the manual states) as to the number of folders allowed. Maybe I'll figure out the limit and post it here

I had similar problem with 2007 M35x. Culprit was long file names. (Filename included artist, album, song title.) After I renamed files to shorten them everything worked fine. Be aware that player will not read any folders that do not contain mp3 or wma files, so don't create them.

two comments from me. if you burn protected music from Itunes to mp3. no title or data.

but if i put in a regular store bought cd in my car, i see not data. but if i upload that same store cd into Itunes, then burn it into MP3 format cd, i get the data. so you can get the data nad a whole bunch more songs on the mp3 cd. I like Itunes for this but that is all i use anyways...

thanks all.
