Having a big problem with maxima.

to start with, I was going to replace the timing chain because of a clicking in the front of the engine. I managed to get that finished with the engine in the car, but when I tried to crank it , I couldn't get a injector pulse, so after several weeks of study, I decided that the timing marks had to be off. I pulled the engine and redone all the setup again, making sure the alighnment was correct. I finally finished putting it back together yesterday, but it took a while to get it to crank. but did crank and run , but wouldn't rev fast enough. I ran a scan on it and found that I had left the crank sensor unpluged. I figured that was my problem. I plugged in the sensor but then it wouldn't crank . so I unplugged the sensor and it cranked again. while I had it running I plugged the sensor in again but it stayed running. but it still wont rev. like it should. All i hear is a loud sucking sound from the intake until it finally catches up. then the rpm will run on up. The problem is, that its not showing any codes at all.

DUDE! Cool your jets. It may take a while for the right person to see you post and reply. Remember, this is an enthusiasts forum. This place is not staffed nor run by people from a dealership, repair shop, etc., so be prepared to wait.

Sucking sound - does it sound like a vacuum leak?

No, its not a vacuum leak, Its comming from the air box. like the sound when you run out of gas. But it will go back to idle just fine and if i dont rush it , it will rev to 5 or 6 K. what I dont understand is, why it wont give a code.

OK, looks like something throttle related (TCM/TPS). Unfortunately, I don't know much about 2007 - that's too young for me.

If it were one of those, why wouldn't it trigger a code?

There could be an obstruction at the throttle plate - and no code would be issued. I had a piece of intake boot come loose and lodge in the throttle plate in my Infiniti M35x, and it behaved just like it was out of gas, and there were no lights or codes.

Today I went over to the shop where I have the car just to talk to a friend about it , and I cranked it just hoping that it had fixed itself i guess. I tried revving it a few times, but nothing had changed. so I just revved it on up. when it got to 3500 rpm, it lit up like a rocket, it went to 6000 in a heartbeat. I tried it several times and it did it every time. I don't know what that means, but maby it will help someone that it does meas something to.

Well. I put another crank sensor on the Maxima today, but it didn't help. I had to unplug it to get the car to crank. I hope my ins. is up to date.haha
