I am thinking about cutting back my upper radiator support (toward the front of the car), welding in some supports to keep the support ridged, and moving the radiator forward to allow enough room for two puller fans with some breathing room. Anyone have any ideas on this concept?

I've always heard pullers are better than pushers... and it may prevent the need for an upgraded radiator... or allow room more room for one (most likely with pushers). Ideas and opinions are welcome.

Man if you could get the stock fan onto the motor that would be awesome. I doubt that though. good luck

I was thinking I would use electric pullers, but we will see how much room this "mod" will free up.

check out the picks of my car in the member's ride section. I currently have puller fans on my car. RB25 with Mckinney mounts. The fans are Flex-a-lite dual. I had to cut some of the fan shroud to get it to fit really close to the radiator. I also pulled the cover off the back of one side to clear the pulleys. I am using the stock radiator, but I get a koyo on Monday so the puller fans are not going to clear anymore.

I think you could probably make it work by using a shorter radiator and putting it in at an angle with the top tilted forward. Like in RX-7's. (sorry I compare what I know)

Funny thing is that both the picture of your puller fans (in a FMIC post I think) and previously owning an '86 sport model of the RX7 myself inspired this idea. I originally thought about cutting the support and angling a taller radiator forward to increase surface area, but ended up going with the idea of cutting idea and using twin pullers instead. The incredibly small gap between your fans and the pullies is what pushed me in this direction.

I am always glad to hear that some ghetto idea of mine, can inspire people to have better ideas..

I bet you could get the stock radiator or one slightly shorter to fit where the AC condenser is directly in front of the radiator. I had thought about trying that, but I wanted to have plenty of room for my FMIC and piping, so pusher fans for me.

The easiest option would probably be to find out the demensions of that space and then just get a racing radiator that will fit in that spot.

A couple of things to consider. You are moving weight further away from the center of your car. Using the stock fan is sucking power from the motor. You will need to make a custom radiator shrowd.

Good luck whatever you decide. I will be taking the nose of my car soon to put on the FMIC and to put in pusher fans. I will try to remember to take a bunch of pics.

I am only looking for about 1-2" of travel forward, so weight distribution should not change too much, and the electric pullers have a 99% chance of going in over the stock clutch fan.

Do take a lot of pics when you install your FMIC. I have a Hybrid unit that is going in, and the room available was a concern of mine with this idea. Another concern was the fact that having the FMIC closer to the radiator might further reduce the amount of ambient air reaching to cool the motor. We will see...

Do you have the Hybrid piping kit as well? I am been looking everywhere for that freaking piping.

Sport compact car magazine did a FMIC right next to the radiator on a S13 with SR20DET. You might look at to get some ideashttp://www.sportcompactcarweb....lvia/

I am actually making a custom aluminum piping setup like this:

I will look into that arcticle, thanks for the help!

SCC could do that FMIC right by the radiator because they had an SR20, not an RB. The SR's leave as much room up front as the KA did.

I think moving the radiator forward is a great idea, and on my car it looks like there will be plenty of room. Whether or not you have pullers and a Koyo or pushers and a Koyo, IF you can find a way to mount them you should end up with the same amount of room for FMIC as NISMO_RB25 ends up with (but you will have the advantage of running pullers.

Anyway, I want to see pics whenever you do it.

Why not run 2 AC fans on the front as pushers.. we run them that way, no probs..infact, some people just run 1 fan.Never EVER seen a temp gauge move past normal.Saves a lot of messing around! ;)

How hot does it get around where you are located? It is not uncommon for us to see constant 90-100 deg F summers where I am, and I guess I'm just concerned since I will have a FMIC. Are you running stock radiators with the a/c fan setup?

Std GTR.. others are running std S13.The std temp switch in the bottom is ~100deg C.2 fans running for 10-15sec usually gets it below the triger point.

TWIN AC fan is the ticket ;)
