So. I'm moving Sooouth. Rawr rawr.

Question. Obviously I'm taking the vehicle. Think it'll be okay towing a small UHaul trailer with my clothes and smallish appliances (cookware, knifeset, toaster, bedding etc)? No furniture, no TVs, none of that stuff.

I know the towing capacity says 1000lbs. Trailer alone is 850, I believe the website said. Also, do I need to purchase a hitchy-thing, or can I rent that too ,and they can take it off when I return the trailer? Never moved before. Sigh.

Thoughts?

PS. Hitchy-thing. Gotta love my female terminology.

If the trailer itself is 850lbs you will easily exceed the towing capacity when you pack in all your stuff, and don't forget that driver/passengers count towards the cap. Exceeding the cap is not necessarily a problem. You would have to drive pretty carefully though. It should be doable if the weather is nice and the terrain is easygoing. Otherwise, maybe you should consider renting a pick-up, van or box truck that can haul that stuff as well as tow your car behind it.

Do not tow your belongings behind the car.

as other folks have mentioned I would not try to tow using the A/C... when I moved, I grabbed a Penske truck, and a car tow... http://www.uhaul.com/guide/ind...sport

good luck with the move

Well said DOC. I wouldn't tow anything with the AC. I would also rent a small Uhaul truck with a full car trailor to make that distance of a trip. I say full car trailor because they have some that you just connect the 2 front wheels. Which are unsafe while driving at times because there have been cases were the cars rear flips at turns. With the full car trailor you put the whole car on top of and tow it with the Uhaul truck and they do come with a "Tow Hitch". That would be the safest, easiest and logical thing to do.

GL with the move.

Central FL FTW! lol

as for the hitch im pretty sure you can rent them from u-haul.

BTW Winter Springs is a really nice area and the cops there are hard a$$'s. I bought my coupe over there and was on my way back to the dealership to drop off the rest of the paperwork like the next day, still had my temp tag and everything and the cop still gave me a ticket, so watch out..lol

I just came back from vacation in Florida spent a week down there, mostly in South Beach Miami. It was a ton of fun, but super hot. Glad to be back in this nice California weather
