Car: Currently a Mazda RX8 - getting a G37 convertible

Loved my little wankel-engined racer, but decided it was time to get a real grown up car.

Ordered the sport manual 6 convertible in platinum graphite.

Now, have six long months to wait!

Welcome to NICO

I had a 74 RX4 for 17 years. I loved that Mazda and rotary engine

You have 6 months to wait for the car to be built?

Nice I like RX8 for few reasons. One is the Venkel. Only backdraw is the moding it.

There is one convertible at my dealer. Today I was there. I drool all over it. They had a 370 a G37 and the G37Convertible in 10 feet. Oh yeah.

It's looks are definitely an acquired taste - and some will never like it, I agree.

But if you haven't ever DRIVEN one, you really don't know what you're missing.

A 9,000 RPM redline and handling like a go-kart on steroids.

On the other hand, I got more tickets in the RX8 during my four year lease than in my entire 22-year driving career. So there's that.

Infinitis, I hope, are much less of a cop magnet.

I've had 3 RX7s(1981,86,91). Hands down the best cars I have ever owned. I was all set to get an Rx8 but the G coupe came out a year earlier and I couldn't wait for a new car. Also Mazda managed to mistake(lie) about the HP figures and was forced to offer refunds to first year buyers. I love the Mazda but I have not regretted buying 2 G coupes. I got two speeding tickets in the first two years of ownership($126 on the first, warning on the second), so be warned!

I got a $575 fine for going 141 km/hr in a 90km/hr zone, pulled once for peeling away from a light.... Oh, once for donuts in a parking lot... But other than that I don't get hassled or anything... I've since lowered my speeding habits which makes a big difference... I want to rip I'll go to the track.

Yeah, the dumb thing about that is there was no need to lie about the HP. The car is not a drag racer - it was never going to compete with the crowd that likes camaros, Mustangs, etc. Even at 238 HP, it's plenty quick, due to the 50/50 weight distribution and relative lightness overall. Lack of torque sucks if you want to drag race teenagers, but you can absolutely go balls out in corners and on twists.

I have driven it a few times, and frankly, not impressed. I like torque. And the car didn't feel alive or exciting, so it wasn't fun to me. Its spacious though. the front. sort of.

Did you drive an automatic or a manual?

I test drove the automatic and it was appallingly slow. I've literally never heard anyone who drove the manual not come away impressed with the handling, the high rpms and zippiness.

Anyhoo, as I said, it's not a car for people who like to burn off the line and post sub 5.9 0 to 60 times.

My lease ends in May. So the wait is due to that. I just wanted to get started TALKING about my awesome new car early.
