Does anybody know if the stock speakers on a 92-94 vert or s13 would be amplified or not? I am thinking of buying a bose system but the seller said I need to have amplified speakers or the sound would be very weak. Any audiophiles out there???? thanks in advance. sxxy1992

why do you mean by "bose system?" if that includes 4 speakers and a head unit then the stock speakers being amplified is a mute point as you would bypass or remove the stock amps anyway.

they are probably just trying to sell you extra crap. unless you like to hear the music from your car in your house or think its cool when everyone else stopped at a red-light has to listen to your music, then 4 speakers powered by a well designed head unit is more than adequate.

personally, i would take your car somewhere else to be done. they obviously have the mindset that you have to have the most watts possible to have a descent sound system. which, unfortunately is a common misconception. watts = loudness not sound quality.

and if you are going to get a sub.. bigger is not necessarily better. if you have a properly engineered sub box, then you will be able to get a better sound out of a smaller sub/amp.

i actually don't know much about bose systems so i can't give you much advice though. but i do like the specs of some of they bose systems i have looked at. i am a blaupunkt/infinity guy.

you may want to check in the "Car Audio/Entertainment/Security" forum for more/better info.

Well since this is bit of a confusing matter I will try and clear things up.

I do not believe that Bose makes an aftermarket unit, as everything I've ever seen came factory installed. This means you are looking to get a bose system out of a maxima or something. DON"T BUY IT!! Bose Speakers are also made of paper and depending on how old the car is, the paper and foam will deteriorate. Buy something quality, infinity, polk, JL, Alpine, ANYTHING BUT BOSE.

I used to work in audio and Bose is nothing but MARKETING BULL!!

To answer your original question, 240 speakers I believe are amplified. If you take your door panel spealers out there is a metal box behind it w/ a circuit board, I believe that is your amplifier from the factory.

Do yourself a favor, Best bang for your buck would be a pioneer or kenwood reciever, with some infinity kappa speakers.

Good Luck, OH BTW I'm moving this thread to the Speaker Section.
