So, now that I have the engine and transmission separated, I want to mount the engine to my stand. It's a 1000lb stand, so no worries there.

My question is, do I use the transmission bolts to mount it? They seem pretty small, and thin to hold that much motor. Or are there some other mounting options behind the flywheel. I haven't got the clutch or flywheel off yet, but that is on tap for this morning.

transmission bolts are fine

the tensile strength on a bolt that huge is WAY more than an engine will weigh.

I just wanted to ask, they seem kinda thin to me to hold a 200kg engine.

Thanks for the response though.

it takes probably 5000lbs to shear a bolt that size

Since my transmission bolts were not long enough!I just used a 1-2 inch longer bolt and a bunch of washers (where needed)and I was good to go.

I've held several RB20's on stands with the transmission bolts, and no probs here.

i found a midget on sale at the local stein mart and used it to prop up the motor...acutaly i used a engine stand and trans bolts, you'll need some washers for a few bolts so they dont bottom out.

Well, I'll be damned, I guess I have a lot to learn about strength of bolts on these monsters.

Hey Sean or anyone, do you have any pictures of a stock clutch on an RB20. When I pulled the transmission off yesterday, the clutch I have looks like a friggan monster twin plate. It's that thick. It says Nissan on the pressure plate cover though, so I am not sure...but it looks brand spankin new. I was gonna take it off today, but it started raining. Shoot!

Well, I found out something interesting. The stock transmission bolts are not long enough for the mounting plate I have. The arms that the block mounts on, are wide for the bolts to go through. Am I not doing something right. Does anyone have any pictures of how it's supposed to be. I can fit the arms over the bolts after they have been threaded into the block, but that can't be the right way.

DUH...of course I did. My problem is that the bolts are not long enough to go through the mounting arms of the engine stand.

sounds like your stand is waaayyy to beefy, my stand i actually had to use nuts as washers to clamp the transmission bolts down, there was way to much play in mine. make sure you use the longest holes so you get the longest bolts too.

Just bring your transmission bolts into home depot, pick up some longer bolts, and be done with it. I would imagine that 1/2" should do the trick because mine were short on my RB25 and motor stand combination.

LOL...Home Depot...Look at my location...That would be an expenive set of bolts. That's kinda what I was thinkin though...I have a shop that I get all my little stuff at. They usually hook me up with free stuff, so I might get lucky tomorrow.

I went to ACE hardware. The local one has way better fastners selection than any home depot. The bolt length I used were 2 3/4" and 2 1/2" stainless. Not sure on the grade.

Looks you got your eninge to about the same level mine is now in it's tear down stage. I got the intake, fuel rail, injectors, cam covers, wiring harness and spark plugs off. The plugs are Greddy's too...woot.

I think I am going to get a few more longer bolts. There are only four mounting holes anyway on the transmission...7 bolt's total, and three of them are just to secure the flex plate to the transmission.

I just want to be sure those bolts will hold my engine. I am too paranoid to just be like "Ok...it's on there, it will be fine." That would be about the time the bolts sheared and my engine would be farked....lol
